Thanks to the review in TripAdvisor i decided to give this restaurant a try. I purposely went after lunch hours at around 1plus and i waited less than 20mins. The raw fish is really very fresh! And with the sauce it is really awesome. My husband who don't really fancy fish kept praising the grilled fish is very tasty. The... More

This place is well located near the Bamboo Grove. We arrived at 10.45am and there was already a queue (we queued for 40 minutes). We had the raw sea bream with green tea on rice set - it was amazing and sea bream was really fresh, definitely one of our best meals in Japan! Would highly recommend visiting this place... More

Located at the beautiful Arashiyama, it served the freshest of sea bream. I particularly liked it raw with the sesame sauce. The four different steps to eating the meal was an exquisite culinary experience. Highly recommended!

Lunch was quite a wait at Taishou Hanana, Arashiyama on a normal weekday, packed with first timers, returning patrons, and sea bream lovers such as myself. The dish comes in 2 choices: A) Tai Chakuze Set (Sashimi style with Green Tea poring over the rice, main star attraction) B) The grilled sea bream set (which i find it just as... More

Fortunately, when we arrived, there's no queue. We just have to wait for a short while, then the waitress brought us in. After we sat down, we can see the queue out there, people started to come for lunch at around 12:30pm. So you better make a reservation beforehand or come before 12:30pm. The sales lady at the soap store... More

If you see a line outside a restaurant in Japan, chances it is a good restaurant. We had lunch at Hanana on August 14th. It was simply delicious - and we already love Japanese food. We had the sea bream sashimi with rice and tea - just excellent.

We arrived in the early afternoon and seemed to avoid the rush, so we didn't have to wait long for a table. We had the sea bream - one sashimi, one pan-fried. Both sets were delicious.

We had lunch here during my stay at Arashiyama. I think the sashimi fish rice with tea is the best! There were so many favour in my mouth and you can taste the freshness of the fish. However, the pan fried fish was a bit dry. Overall, we had a great time here for lunch~

The meals we have ordered was excellent. Service is great. Not for the one who is not willing to try new things. Pickles and miso were very very good. Will come back again🌟🌟🌟

Discovered this restaurant by chance and grateful to be able to eat a tasty and simple Japanese meal in a minimal, clean and quiet space. I would go there again.

Staying in Western Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Western Kyoto
Western Kyoto is home to some of the city's best eccentricities. Kyoto's Saga-Toriimoto Preserved Street takes visitors back in time to the Meiji Period, where old homes have been transformed into tea houses and eateries. Pleasure boats drift down the riverbank, under wooden bridges that beckon nature lovers to hiking trails and botanical walks. The area's famously tall bamboo groves, monkey park, and impressive vistas during the Hanami cherry blossom viewing season mean that it is busiest in warmer months, though also gorgeous in the fall, when the mountains and hills along the banks turn multi-colored. Historic and engaging, even the rail cars in Western Kyoto seek to exemplify its traditional nature and scenic beauty. Many people, including natives, come to visit the 1,200 rakan statues at the Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple, which is still in use as a religious site.
