A unique experience. Traditional setting, trendy and young and with typical Japanese cooking. A bit difficult to find, but a lot of pleasure. Menu in English. Try it!

Visiting a real, local izakaya was one of the key things I wanted to do when visiting Japan. We stumbled across this by chance in Kyoto and were very happy we did! Excellent food with a wide ranging menu and a large drinks selection including...More

Very good food. Very friendly hostess. Great authentic experience and well priced. What more could you ask for? I would recommend their yakitori, fried gyoza and shumai.

We had the pleasure of eating at Kura Kura the other day. Kyoto is quite full of tourists and thus the restaurants in the center seem a little less authentic and a little more inclined to serve what tourist like. Kura Kura is a bit...More

Quaint old style neighborhood restaurant. We were welcomed by the owners. This was a fun experience. The establishment was filled with locals and a few Western visitors. It is an old, well worn restaurant but the food was wonderful. The service was great, remember you...More

This place was a lot of fun. It's a little hard to find with no English signage out front but look for the symbols in the photo here on Trip Advisor and go down the hallway into the back of the building. It was packed...More

Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub,
Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining,
and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with
tourists and local business travelers, making it a
competitive location for ever-new commercial
structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and
trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains.
Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and
