Makanhouse has a good variety of traditional malay and peranakan style foods - the assortments of rice and dishes all in one place serve as a good introduction to those who have yet to the sample the more traditional styles and flavours peculiar to malaysia's...unique heritage.
For locals with a more demanding palette or more used to the flavour and quality of dishes prepared by our respective moms and grandmas - well, makanhouse would comparatively rank as very average. The only thing that really stood out was the grilled fish with Portuguese sauce - it hits all the right spicy flavour notes and goes very well with the natural sweetness of the fish.
Key points to note:
1) parking is challenging in the area, you'll probably have to park at the road behind
2) service is relatively slow
3) portion sizes commensurate with the price - ie on the small side, except for 3 rice combo, which was very good value for moneyMore
