Wife was not impressed with my selection pre dinner. She kept fighting the foodie in me. After she arrived she was delightfully surprised. Vibe was great and atmosphere was inviting. We did the 13 course meal with wine/beer pairing. All was Zen and good with the world on the way they bounced back and forth on the menu. If I... More

I live a ways from Austin so being there for dinner is usually impractical When circumstances put me there at 5:30 I decided to try a few tidbits at Barleyswine's new happy hour. This place has been at the top of my "must eat there" list for a while. I had the pig Face Dumplings which had little flavor and... More

The first time I ever went to Barley Swine (at the request of my omnivore husband), I admit I was underwhelmed. I saw "seared pig face" on the menu, and as I am a vegetarian, it was kind of over for me at that point. But that was a few years ago, and boy are things different now! We've probably... More

We really loved this tasting menu and atmosphere of this restaurant. Each course seemed better than the last. It is definitely some adventurous flavors and food combinations. Even the least adventurous in our group tried every dish and was pleasantly surprised. I cannot begin to name a favorite dish. We did the wine/beer pairings with our meal and I am... More

This restaurant needs to rethink its culinary strategy. OK -- we get the small bites concept. If you spend 5 nights in Austin dining out you can visit 5 eateries with the same/similar concept and get a good sense of how various restauranteurs approach this fun way to eat. But it has to be more than fun. A 12 course Prix-fix... More

Having had tasting menus all over the world and in some of the best, the French Laundry amongst them, this was AWESOME! the menu was creative, the service outstanding and the ambience completely amazing - it was akin to a group of us having the most amazing meal prepared in front of us at home - cannot wait to visit... If you are in the Austin area do not miss Barley Swine restaurant. Yes it is a expensive fixed price menu but you will not be disappointed. Every dish presented, and there were 12, was terrific. I would urge you to go with the wine pairing. We did not but wish we had. The staff were excellent and attentive with... More

Having read multiple accolades about Barley Swine, a few of my foodie friends and I booked a reservation on a recent golfing trip to Austin. I will acknowledge that I had some trepidation about the fact that it is a no substitution tasting menu. However, our 13 course adventure was fabulous....high quality fresh food inventively prepared. Inevitably, each of us... More

This place has a twelve course meal with very small portions. Some of the courses were very odd combinations of foods. The desert items were good but the prices caused sticker shock. The service was very good

If you want to have a spectacular price fixed dinner with many amazing small tastings, this is the place to go for that special evening. Each tasting surpassed the next--creative innovative food served with kindness and professional service. We cannot recommend this restaurant high enough if you have the time and enjoy superlative fresh food.
