I have been going to Matt's El Rancho since the early Eighties. Both at the original location in downtown and the newer spot on Lamar. The location may have changed, but the quality is the same. The best Margaritas, and really good traditional Mexican dishes, not just Tex Mex! Very good salsa and Chips. The Enchiladas are among the best.... More

Matt's is our family's go-to place for weekend evenings; we are there several times a month. We love relaxing on the patio with perfectly mixed margaritas and visiting with family friends who also flock to Matt's for the same reasons. You'll see some tourists and even an occasional celebrity dining at Matt's, but for the most part, this is a... More

Matt's is a favorite of mine and is usually the family's night out go to! Chile Relleno is amazing, stuffed zucchini, Bob Armstrong, Texas Fries, Monster chicken fried steak... the list goes on. Never a disappointment!

Chicken Fried Steak at el Rancho. That's one of our favorites! Have you had it on the weekend brunch menu with eggs and Mexican hash browns? Now that's amazing! Thanks for the awesome review, Paul More

Too many taste buds and palates are already trained to like Tex-Mex so stepping into the authentic Mexican meal can be a shocker but something easily acquired. Bob's Bowl as an appetizer is SPOT-ON, melted queso w/guacamole and seasoned beef - perfect for the large thick chips and heavier salsa. plenty to choose from on the menu from beef and... More

Hi Bud, I must say I'm a bit confused? After all the great feedback you gave us on how fantastic we were, then you gave us a 3 out of 5 rating? Thanks for the great feedback but please consider updating this review / rating. I'm wondering if you accidentally hit the wrong button? We really take pride in our... More

Lived in Austin for yrs & Matt's was one of the regular haunts. Either my memory is flawed by the good times had there, or this place is no longer the premier Tex-Mex place it once was. Took my children & was disappointed. The waiter was great-Eric. We ate @ Matts Rancho Martinez in Allen (?) TX off I-75 which... More

Hi Kimberly, not sure what happened here and I'd love to get some details. Our reviews have never been higher so it's really disappointing that while we gave great service, your food was not to your expectations. There is always a manager walking the floor so please know that anytime your food is not AWESOME, please ask for the manager.... More

My friends took me to lunch here and I was really impressed. I moan and groan that there are no really good Mexican restaurants in Austin, and there aren't, but this is a step above. Great service. Enchiladas are wonderful. Tacos are tasty. A good place for Mexican food.

This is a large, super fun restaurant with great Tex-Mex and margaritas. On the weekends, it's absolutely HOPPING around dinner, but with such a huge restaurant, it usually doesn't take longer than 30 minutes to get a table (just grab a marg at the bar!). Unfortunately they do not take reservations after 5:30 PM. I think the outside patio is... More

In Austin for SXSW films and fun . Had to stop by Matt's for fabulous margaritas and outside patio. Today is perfect weather and really nice to be here. Food was very good but not all consistent . Great Bob's queso/guac/seasoned ground beef dip. Get a large one of that. Very good chicken fajitas. Teenage son liked the chicken fried... More

Excellent fajitas by the pound. Drinks were alright and made strong. We did a pound of chicken/beef fajitas and a few drinks, it was around $40. Service was a bit slow.

Went for lunch and did not have to wait. Ordered Bob' queso which was excellent with their crispy chips. Main course was the chicken flautas with red sauce. Waiter was very attentive.
