Excellent food, as service. I order the guacamole which is a shareable size for a large group, best ever. And Shrimp enchiladas! The waitress was quick and friendly! Fist time I’ve had real service if this level in a while.

Amazing margaritas!! Food was delicious also but Our waitress barely would refill our drinks or check on us and it always felt like we were bothering her.. and salsa came in 2oz cups...but other then that we had a wonderful visit!
After finishing a conference we went to Trudy's for dinner. The food was super delicious and the special home cocktail was so tasty. Nice staff. can't say anything else; it was superb! Really recommend Trudy's.
Nice restaurant frequented mainly by university students of UT Austin. Good Mexican food. Fajitas and enchiladas. Martini full shaker for just five dollars as it was happy hour. The Restaurant is true value for money.
Hadn't been here for many years, and took my out of town guests here for lunch. They loved their cocktails (Mexican Margarita & Bloody Mary) and the food was very good, with large portions--i couldn't even finish my enchiladas--a rare event. Service was friendly and...helpful, as as we were at the tail end of the lunch rush, didn't mind if we lingered and visited with our drinks after eating. There is a small parking lot, also street parking. If you come at a peak time be prepared to wait for a table.More
Was in town from Dallas for the weekend and a group of 5 of us stopped in for late night drinks and food. The group had their yummy martinis and we ordered various entrees. I tried the stuffed jalapenos!! WOW, they were so de-lish and...so large, I could only finish one of the four. The server, I wish I remembered her name, was so nice and funny! We laughed with her as a large bachelor party made their way in to the restaurant. This place is certainly off the beaten path but a great find and I would return next time I am in Austin! One request: Coors Light on DRAFT!!! thxMore
I stopped by after a UT basketball game. The crowd was small because it is usually packed. The service is okay. I ordered the Tex-Mex Combo Platter with a beef taco. The service was not good. My table and chair kept getting bumped into. I...was neglected by my server.More
We met some friends here and enjoyed the food immensely! Our server was excellent and my Texas Nachos and soda came to $7.48 and it was more than I could eat. The cushions on our booth were broken and I had to fight to not...slide into a trench.More
I've lived in the neighborhood of Trudy's Texas Star for 18 years and it was always my go-to place for Tex-Mex. Everybody from out of town, we brought to Trudy's, and they always loved it. My husband and I actually had our first date there....I was something very close to Trudy's Texas Star's #1 fan, until about 8 months ago: something changed. We went in for breakfast and the menu was different; no problem, we ordered what we'd been getting for 17 years, it was still available. But when it came, the glorious spiced chicken enchiladas with "verde sauce" that we knew and loved were sadly changed. It was like a soup, with a couple of rolled and filled tortillas floating in it. A mistake! we thought. Any kitchen can have a bad night! So we've been going back, hopefully, trying anything and everything that we once loved in the hopes that this neighborhood staple is no longer wiped from our mental map--but across the board, everything is inferior. I guess it isn't actively _bad_, but it once was actively great. No more. It feels as if somebody brought in a consultant to cut costs, or something. The service is more or less the same. Today it was friendly but not very professional ("Did you need anything?" said my server to me uncertainly as I sat at an empty table, with no water, menu or anything yet--I mean, yes? Please? A menu is a great start!). I did upscale my Mexican martini to an Espolon top-shelf and I must say that it was excellent, tart and delicious. So that, at least, doesn't seem to have changed. But man--I miss the old Trudy's. For newcomers to Austin, or tourists who have had it recommended and wonder why, trust me: it once was worth your while. I don't think I'll go there any more, though, at least until I forget that it isn't what it used to be.More
From the dangerous strawberry margaritas ( get the floater) , giant tasty wings, to just the taco bar is the bomb! amazing stuffed avocado - out of this world, can't do without the queso, just wow all around!
I've been to Trudy's before, so I know what I could expect - tasty food with nice servers in a great atmosphere. Too bad it was so far off last Saturday night. We ate in the downstairs bar in spite of the dirty tables. Waiter...was new and screwed up 3 of the 4 orders at the table. Not sure I can recommend Trudy's anymore.More
Found Trudy’s after searching for a nearby BBQ place that went out of business. What a find! Very inexpensive, nightly specials, free queso and salsa bar, even $2 margaritas on the night I visited. The Honey Cholula Chicken was amazing! Served with a tangy spicy...sauce and what seemed like pickled red onions. Served with a southwest roasted corn on the cob. Service excellent, seemed like a real Austin experience!More
This is a place our daughter in law enjoyed going to when she lived in Austin. The place looks a little rough and tumble but the food is fantastic and the portions are huge. We started with some fabulous queso. I had the steak fajitas...and my wife had the shrimp. The meals were all brought out together and served piping hot. Everything is fresh and flavorful and I doubt you could wrong ordering anything they have on their extensive menu. Full bar with lots of beers available. The service is very good and helpful and attentive.More
My friends and I always come to Trudy's when we want good texmex and drinks. The stuffed avocado is my personal favorite and arguably the best thing on the menu; everyone talks about it so just go ahead and try it, if you love avocado...you WON'T be disappointed! They offer a great deal on Thursdays where margaritas are only $2!! Any other day i'd recommend trying the Mexican Martini, lemme tell ya you'll only need to buy one drink!More
I graduated from UT 25 years ago, and during a recent visit to Austin I had the opportunity to have dinner with some old friends and we chose Trudy's. It was great back then and it was still very good after all these years. I...had a Tex Mex Combo plate and enjoyed it very much.More
