Had a good meal for the price. The building is amazing, haunted and great for history buffs. A definite visit if you are in the area. Ask for a tour of the upstairs, markings on wall are bed numbers when it was a civil war hospital.

We were in Abingdon to celebrate our wedding anniversary, go to the Barter Theater, and eat at The Tavern for the first time. We were seated promptly with no waiting. Our server one of the best ever. The filet, scallops, and salmon were prepared to perfection. It was wonderful dining experience in a building with so much history.

The food and selection of draft beer were excellent. They had the best Jagerschnitzel I had ever had.

We live in Abingdon, but it's been awhile since we had been to the Tavern. On date night last Saturday we decided to give it another go. I don't know why we haven't been here more frequently. The server was extremely friendly and did a wonderful job attending to our needs. The food was great. I had Scallops and the... More

The food was fine, not anything to write home about. I think the worst thing that happened to all (8) of us is we all came down with the flu two days later. None of us had been ill before that evening, we didn't touch each other, shake hands, hug, etc. I can only think that someone working there was... More

The Tavern is the oldest surviving building in Abingdon, with a storied history. We had dinner here to celebrate closing on our house. Max, the owner of the restaurant who is from Germany, came by our table a couple of times and arranged for a tour of the building, including the Civil War hospital on the third floor! Food was... Oldest bar in Virginia in Tavern that dates from 1779. Emily's service was excellent. Jaegersnitzel was superb. Really is the place to dine in Abingdon.

Very Enjoyable evening. I had the duck while the wife and son had the two different scallop dishes. All was very enjoyable. Nice fresh baked lost of bread and excellent ceasar salad. A little pricey but we left satisfied. Service was very good.

One of the reasons we stayed in Abingdon, was to have a meal at the Tavern,a circa 1779 building that has served as a tavern, post office and stagecoach inn among other functions. The cuisine is typical Americana plus a series of German classics overseen by a retired USAF member and German national,Max Herman.I had the weinerschnitzel, which was superb,so light-my wife the jäger...
