French country food there is always delicious. Reservations pretty much a necessity. Seating is tight but it is not too noisy.

Fabulously authentic French restaurant in the heart of Old Town Alexandria....cozy tables surrounded by French iconic decor, the menu is classic with much to choose from( Coq Au Vin and Cassoulet were both outstanding.) Service is attentive and the food is everything you would want from a French Bistro. A little chilly if seated near the door but the rich... More

I first went to Le Refuge soon after they opened in 1983. We were there tonight and it is as good as ever. The service was super and the food was both plentiful and as always, very tasty. What more can I say. I highly recommend it.

Went to Old Town to see the lights and decorations. We had a few restaurants in mind but did not make any reservations. When we went by Le Refuge it just felt right. Small, intimate and eclectic. The menu had many true French cuisine dishes (Frog Legs and Escargot) but was extensive enough for seafood and meat lovers as well.... More

Excellent, country French food with some of the best snails I've had. By FAR the best French restaurant in the VA, DC, MD area. There are plenty that are more aloof and certainly more pricy, but none offer this combo of quality and atmosphere. One of my top 5 places in the whole area.

French cuisine isn't usually on the top of my list when I'm looking to dine out, but as I was walking by this small, unassuming bistro late one evening, I saw their menu offering "Cassoulet Maison," and I knew I had to have some. For those who think all French food is all snooty and "froufrou," full of light and... More

The food was excellent. The staff was a bit snooty, I suspect they aren't really 'nice' unless they believe you are someone important or a 'regular' patron, but my money is just as good as anyone else's, correct? If you don't mind this, then the cuisine is worth the walk through Old Town.

I took my former major professor and his wife, and friends for dinner; brought them to this French restaurant because I want to impress them of what Virginia offers. Each of us ordered different cuisines and every one was pretty much awed with what they ate. It's a little bit pricy, but from what I've heard, French restaurants in general... More

We had not been here for about 10 years. Has not changed much. Surprisingly busy at 7:30 on a Monday night. Mostly older couples. Pre-Fixe 3-course dinner was $34.95. Generous servings. Attentive staff. Only complaint, why no real French bread? What was served was obviously frozen bread. French baguettes are available 2 blocks down the street at Trader Joe's! Will... More
