We went there yesterday to eat, as the restaurant we planned to go to was closed. Would not recommend. I'm pretty sure the food was heated in the microwave, and tasted not so much. I had the "fruta de mar" dish, and the seafood was very chewy. My friend got food poisoning and threw up later! Service was almost too... More

if you want to see a great show, featuring the main dances of the different areas in brazil, then you must go to this place, make reservations ahead, their food is super good, we had cod croquettes, steak, rice and beans, their caipirinhas and caipiroskas are amazing and service is super good, also they have a samba class before the... We went to this restaurant before an evening at Rio Scenarium and it was a great move! The food was excellent and the staff were very nice. The food was much better here than what we saw in Rio Scenarium and also much cheaper. Pretty much a mix of seafood and Italian cuisine, so there is plenty to choose from... More

Pretty average Brazilian food for a fairly high price all things considered. Came to roughly 145R$ for 3 drinks, 2 mains and 1 dessert and was......okay. I had cod which was grilled and served with chucks of deep fried potato and rice. The cod was overcooked and I had to pour olive oil on it to make it tolerable. I... More

We had a beer there on Saturday (2 days ago), and when we paid with my credit card my fiancee noticed that the waiter was doing something strange with his hand while attempting to charge the card. I later checked my online statement and saw that the charge was never made. Today I received a call from Amex notifying me... More

We arrived in Brazil 2 days ago, yesterday we were recommended by our hotel to visit Lapa Scenarium, we were quite tired after our flight so instead of visiting his place we decided to sit in the street outside the Scenarium at this bar. Really enjoyed the local atmosphere and great drinks and food. After breakfast this morning I received... More

A great little bar / restaurant which gets busy at mights but I went there at lunchtime and had a great meal. There is a whole variety of choices so there should be something for everybody. This is a great restaurant to sit eat and watch the world go by

The Mangue Seco is a typical carioca restaurant, located in the downtown area (Lapa) serves typical Brazilian food and drinks. The atmosphere is relaxed. Tables can be chosen either inside or outside. The portions are generous and the price reasonable. The food was acceptable, I was expecting something better. Service was ok. We sat outside and we could hear the... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.
