Highly recommend this place, very clean and hygienic. Variety of ice creams to choose from and the portions are enormous. Personal favourite was the ferrero. Visited this place pretty much everyday during my stay in Rio because it was so good.

This small and fancy place serves the best gelato italian style in Rio! And ask always for Mario, the italian owner that brought the italian ice cream secret to Rio...thanks Mario! If you like different styles, ask for the Tapioca or the Milho verde (corn ice cream)...a Italian/Brazilian mix that is just great. The limone tart is a classic!

I know how to judge a gelato! I've been to tons of places in Italy and this one really makes me feel back in Toscana! Really tasty, fresh ingredients and the owner Mario, a true Italian sir makes the atmosphere even better explaining the flavors! I grew up in this area and the same owner used to have a tiny... Having been spoilt by the wonderful ice cream in Argentina we felt this place was very disappointing. Not too many flavours to choose from, in comparison, and the difference in cost between a small tub an a large tub in tiny but the cost is significant. Very expensive for what you get. Handy that it's open late for post dinner... More

I like Amarena so much that I go there once a week... The flavours are a mix of Brazilian fruits and classical Italians. Eventually they bring us new ones! All of them in high quality made of ingredients brought from Italy. Try the Moonwalker, pistachio, graviola, mint...

Last year I was in Italy for 2 weeks and had gelatos every day, in over 10 cities and I can say that the ice cream I had in Amarena doesn't even compare to the ones I had in Italy. It's indeed very good, top quality ingredients, but not an authentic Italian gelato. In Sao Paulo there's a gelateria called... More

Staying in Copacabana

Neighbourhood Profile
Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.
