I was there during the Olympics and it was on the to-do list of my friend. Known to be one of the oldest cafes in town. We were there for brunch, since we got up late in the morning. Even the simple chicken sandwich with brioche was yummy and the coffee was true italian. Best place for breakfast or lunch.... More

Situated between Carioca and Uruguaiane metro stations. Dropped in to Casa Cave as it was advertised as a traditional Portuguese style eatery. Did not disappoint. Did not understand the ordering process. Given a card and then ordered food from the display counter and paid the cash register at the end. A bit confusing at first. Worked OK. Food was very... This is a traditional and old place in downtown Rio were jornalists, writers and social colunists used to encounter to gossip around refresments and coffee. The walls and the table remain the same as they always were but the kitchen has changed into a more contemporary settings. But being there brings you back in time.

I got maried in Dec 05 2015, after the ceremony we went to the Casa Cave to have our breakfast. We had the breakfast in a separated room, inside Casa Cave. Everyone was so nice and kind with us, the food was perfect! Their "palmier coberto" turned my favourite for life and the "torrada petrópolis" was delicious. The most special... More

I live in Rio but I can not resist to go to Casa Cave in order to drink a coffee and eat something good. I recommend you to have a "coxinha" (deep-fried dumpling filled with shredded chicken). It is very traditional in Rio. And for dessert ask for a "Pastel de Natas" (a portuguese pastry) with a coffee. It is... More

This is another traditional cafeteria, close to the most traditional in Rio: Colombo. In a Portuguese ambience, you may enjoy Portuguese and Brazilian small dishes and pastries. It´s amazing!

We came to Casa Cave with our food tour guide who noted that this is the oldest bakery in Rio. They have certainly perfected their recipes, providing delicious pastries, cakes and savoury snacks. The juices were also flavoursome. Colombo is the most famous cafe in Rio and is a beautiful restaurant, but I would recommend crossing the road, and coming... More

Not as pretty as Colombo but the coffee and food are good. Also not nearly as crowded. This shop is older 5han Colombo, just not as flashy.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.
