Great food at very reasonable prices. The staff are great and the atmosphere terrific. The cook is not always there so you may need a bit of pre planning. For us we dropped by and the cook was due the next day. So we ordered off the menu and turned up the next day to a sumptuous meal. I note... More

Upstairs at a backpackers and not signposted. But worth a visit. The food was delicious and the lady insisted on making me a pancake for dessert free of charge. If I was staying longer I'd go back.

The Food and the athmosphere is great! You should try the pumpkin curry or the fried rice, it's realy something special. Also if the chef isn't there to cook, the staff can cook really good too. Apart from the fact that it could take a little bit longer till the food is ready and you have to order in advance... More

My husband and I had seen all the reviews on this place so thought we would check it out. It is up a staircase in a backpackers. We thought nothing of it and went up and when we got to the reception desk, we asked the girl if the pancake place was upstairs and she looked confused I asked again... More

This food was completely different from the others things we ate in Sandakan. It doesn't get more Malaysian than this. You could get breakfast, seafood and of course local tea. Try it!!

Really enjoyed this. And apple juice good. Just a shame that it is rather slow on getting your order. Although it is all cooked fresh. Also would love a banana milkshake, please don't list so many drinks on the menu when they're not available! Other than that really good. As I said the pumpkin curry is moreish and good value... Don't trust the current tripadvisor map directions. It's much closer to the water, right across from the central market area. Walk on up the sea view backpackers hotel staircase and you'll be treated to some grade a awesome food. We had spinach pancake with eggplant (times 2 cause it was so good), banana pancake for the little one and the... More

once we went up the stairs we found a bolted door and were sent up further dark staircase to the restaurant on the top floor. Great view into the market opposite. Owner very friendly and helpful the lemongrass and pumpkin curry was delicious as was the banana pancake. Only customers so very quiet but really nice experience.

We dropped our laundry off here and returned the next day to have a great breakfast(I highly recomend the spinach omlette) . The food for four of us was all great prepared freshly and was very cheap. The laundry was beautifully done and a tenth of the price we would have paid at our hotel. Take the time to spread... More

Unfortunately, I did not have ample time to try the famous pancakes here, but I hope they are as fabulous as the Pumpkin Curry, and the Lemongrass Infusion. Yes, they tasted very nice..you want another 1 or 2 refills. The Pumpkin Curry - I was a little bit hesitated at first, thinking it might contains meat or seafoods, thank God,... More

Lemongrass is a new cafe opened directly below the SeaView Sandakan Budget & Backpackers Hotel. We serve delicious pancakes daily for a budget price. The options range from sweet to savoury, including the house speciality, Palm Sugar Syrup. Originally served to hotel guests for breakfast, the pancakes received excellent reviews and led Nabisatul, the owner, to open Lemongrass Cafe. Now everyone can try the delicious pancakes for a reasonable price! The recipe has been in Nabisatul's family for years and was passed to her from her late mother, making them truly unique! Make sure you come and visit us if you are in Sandakan and tell all your friends about us! We look forward to welcoming you!
