A great stop off point during a visit to Xin Tian Di, with some great outdoor seating for the summer and plenty of cosy space indoors. The beers here are typical high quality German brews from the Paulaner brewery and they do not disappoint. Beers comes in 0.3L, 0.5L and 1L and a really delicious. The meals are authentic, tasty... I have been to this place before on several trips to Shanghai and have found the food and service to be good to very good. So when I read some rather negative reviews I went back with a bit of trepidation. Actually nothing has changed. This place has a heavy business with outstanding views of the Bund from most seating... More

German restaurant chain in Shanghai and this XianTianDi shop is definitely for tourists around the area. Standard German dishes and services not impressive. We went earlier and thus not many people around.

Summer in Shanghai and sit in the beer garden of Paulaner in Xintiandi and have a beer is a great event for an expat like me. Coming to Xintiandi and being very thirsty, my feet went almost automatically to this beer garden. I ordered a nice beer, some sausage salad and a Pretzel. Almost like in Germany. All came rather... This place is a scam for tourist, absolutely over priced with terrible service....I paid 45 RMB for a bottle of Evian (33 CL), and the price of the same bottle become 65 RMB after 9.30 PM. Beverages change price after 9.30 PM, getting even more expensive, absolutely unacceptable. I asked a glass of tapped water and they refused at first,... More

The place has a real nice atmosphere and the design is great and so is the location. However, the location has its price. Half litre beer locally brewed RMB 80 + tax is not cheap, but for the location it can be justified. The food, however, is absolutely disgusting. Living in Shanghai, I will continue to have beers there, but... More

Very tasty food, cold beer and being in Shanghai was great. We took a ferry to get to the side of the river where this restaurant is located

During a recent 15 day trip through China we found this place by cheer fluke. A large flag "Munich Beer seit 1931" took our attention. 20 of went there for dinner and no surprise, every one loved it. I was the only one born and raised in Germany and can honestly say, this was the best german food I experienced... More

Food and beer are overpriced. Definite tourist trap. Beer is very good though. There are better options around in the area.

This place has been talk of the town for years since the establishment of Xin Ten Dee. Recently, due to the resettlement of the property, there are more choices adjacent and is not so crowded as before. Honestly, this is a place of memory only. Nothing to be unusual. For food, is junk food. For Beer, is the same as... More

Staying in Xintiandi

Neighbourhood Profile
Xintiandi
The refurbishment of a block of old shikumen into a carless entertainment center called Xintiandi, filled with restaurants, shops and bars, turned this area below South Huangpi Road into one of Shanghai’s most fashionable areas. Luxe condos house people who can afford the high-end brands that fill the malls and shops along Madang Road. The pleasant Taipinghu Park provides the area with green space and is also home to Shanghai Fashion Week twice a year. It’s not all glitter and glamour, though, as the rise of Danshui Road has given the Xintiandi area a shot of toned-down character. Small bars and cafes, mostly owned by locals, have people hanging out in a formerly quiet, unassuming part of the neighborhood.
