Lunch with colleagues in private room, so didn't feel the overall ambience. Limited choice of sushi and very limited choice of sashimi on the menu. Seafood not best quality or freshest, but that's probably to be expected in Shanghai.

I got a dinner on Friday night and I have to say I was lucky in find a place like that: not very expensive and with a good sushi and sashimi. What was not convinvincing me was: they forgot to bring me the napkins (and in a Japanese style restaurant this is unacceptable), and also once they have served the... More

Tried the one at the Lujiazhui Investment Centre in Pudian Road, Pudong, and it was packed during lunchtime. Waiting period was around 30 minutes. They have nice-priced set lunches starting from around 60 rmb, with beef, mutton or bibimbap as main dishes, with chawanmushi, miso soup, a small salad, a fresh platter of 3 sashimi (prawn, tuna and salmon), as... This used to offer quite decent all you can eat food. Restaurant has seen its best days. Sashimi and sushi quality is now down. Also service is just acceptable. Competition is tough in Shanghai and there are lots of better places with reasonable cost.

I have visited Ooedo 3 times during business trips and had 3 very good meals. Friendly and prompt service, encouraging to try different dishes. Refreshing juices, fresh sushi, relaxed atmosphere. Obviously very good value for decent quality food, drinks and service.

A lot of friends recommended this place and decided to give it a try. The restaurant itself is showing its age, but clean. Dinner cost RMB 238 and had the usual selection of sashimi and sushi. Three choices of teppanyaki beef, a few different selections of salads, which all taste good. There were four selections of shabu shabu. The price includes... More

They have "eat as much as you can" option for only 200 rmb per person. Don't do it. Food was no good. We were trying to catch waiters, sometimes we did it, sometimes not. Only sake improved situation a little bit :-)

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
