This is the sort of hostel-adjacent diner I'd expect to find anywhere where college kids go to "see the world" through half-open eyes. The theme is anachronistic Grateful Dead, with the normal scuffs and peeling paint of anytown, China. But they were open, and they hadn't run out of the food I ordered. Points for that. But the food is... More

Though this restaurant is somewhat tucked away in a corner, it does provide quite nice food with quite nice value. I tried the Reuben, chill cheese fries and the peanut butter chocolate milkshake, all of which were quite filling. I would recommend this restaurant for sure.

Good tasting food, breakfast burritos were fantastic Cool neighborhood Good service Large portions (Blueberry Pancakes, were too big for my nine year old to finish... and she loves Pancakes)... A nice respite from all of the Chinese food we've been eating.

This place is not a romantic spot for a candle lit overpriced posh nosh dinner but it is a great place to get good comfort food at good prices with good service. It's unlikely to receive any Michelin stars but take it for what it is an American type diner with good food

The service was great, as the server repeated the order to us to make sure he got it right (first waiter to do so in 8 months in China). Food was ok, but the drinks were good. Might come back before I leave Shanghai

This place serves decent American / Western food that will qualify most people's immediate needs. If this joint was in the USA, it would be kind of "bla", mediocre, but my overall rating is considering that we are in Shanghai and sometimes Western food (on a budget) can be hard to come by if you are looking for something beyond... Munchies is an American fast-food restaurant. Serves typical snacks like sandwiches, hot dogs, Cincinnati-style chili, burgers, peanut butter shakes. Good for cheap lunches and weekend hangouts.

Great little place to get reasonably priced American comfort food. I like the Hawaiian burger and fries, and the burritos. Comfortable booth seating and classic rock playing most of the time. Service can be uneven, but this is Shanghai.

Staying in Jing'an

Neighbourhood Profile
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.
