It is a great rooftop bar there's no doubt about it. The cocktails and drinks may be quite overpriced but when you consider the view of The Bund from their roof, you may not mind the 60 yuan beverage quite so much. It was a very nice atmosphere as well

The view is nice but doesn't justify paying premium prices for basic service in a mediocre establishment.

THe nice view on Pudong skyline , can't justify the poor service . The staff has very non welcoming attitude.. We went there several time there , the prices are now crazy high for this kind of places : 40 rmb a soft drink - and most of dishes over 70 rmb - we ask for pumpkin ravioli , they... More

This bar on the sixth floor of a hostel certainly doesn't charge hostel type prices! It's worth a visit for a drink or two for the view alone. If you had there just as the sun is setting you will see a fantastic view of the Shanghai skyline on the roof terrace bar. If you head into the outskirts of... More

You come for the view and you stay for the view. Drinks are on the pricey side for hostel bar, food was okay but the view is why you come.

Captains bar is one of the best places to hang out and have a look at pudong, especially at night. However over the past couple of years I noticed service has become very bad. Down to the fact, that the waiter gives you the feeling you just interupt his nap. Together with increased prices I am not sure if I... More

The staff is really gente and some of them speak english, the terrace has no light in order to have a better apreciattion of the ligths of the Bund... More

You have a pretty good view but the hostel itself seems crowded and expensive for a dorm kinda room, and also the view is not that close to the bund, but all in all is nice to sit somewhere friendly and have a drink with your friends while having the bund infront of you

I was a bit put off when I heard it was on the top of a youth hostel, but when I got up there I forgot about the place I walked in and enjoyed the view. I would recommend getting there early enough to get a good seats, we were arrived around 5:45pm, the place fills up fast. This place... More

We very nearly walked away from this bar when we went in through a hostel, but when we got to the roof we had a fantastic view of Shanghai almost to ourselves. Food and drink were reasonably priced.

Very nice place to get an evening cocktail/beer for 50+RMB. Beautiful view over the Bund will visit next time I am in Shanghai.

Staying in The Bund

Neighbourhood Profile
The Bund
While there are certainly many other “bunds” in the world, “the Bund” refers to Shanghai’s famous waterfront. The area’s Gothic, Art Deco and Beaux Arts monoliths were built when it was part of the Shanghai International Settlement run by the British and Americans. The atmosphere of colonial-era luxury has endured over time and is now found in the five-star hotels, luxury brand boutiques and expensive restaurants that can be found within the historic buildings. A cultural center has built up away from the water and some of Shanghai’s best art galleries and museums are housed close to the Bund. Nighttime views of Pudong and the rest of the city also make for a great backdrop at the many rooftop clubs.
