We came by for milkshakes and Ice cream. Friendly service. Great people watching and open air dining. Our shakes and ice cream was very good.

If fresh fish is what you want, then this is the place to come. Yes, it is off the beaten track however, doesn’t this add to all the excitement of being in a different country?!!!. Jiuberth showed us the catch of the day. Food was...served by his lovely friendly wife. Decor is amusing and you can sense that this is a very family oriented place. We loved it, we came back a second time. I would definitely recommend this place.More
The rico and international atmosphere of the restaurant makes it a great stop in the town. My salad was delicious and the owner friendly and attentive. I definitely recommend.
We did a tour in Costa Rica for two weeks, ate in many restaurants, but this one was the only one dissappointing. The food was very average (and more expensive): chicken was dry and tasteless, pasta bolognaise was the better platter, no fresh greens, ......and there was no athmosphere at all. Puntarenas isn't worth the visit anyhow...More
Grabbed lunch and a couple of cold beers after a day sightseeing from the cruise ship. Phenomenal food, my wife had the ceviche and said it had excellent flavor and was very fresh. I tried the chicken in rice local specialty and it was delicious....Great spot just over block away from the cruise dock, don't miss it.More
Having visited here before, when returning to Puntarenas, I knew I had to get here again. I remembered our Host/Owner from the last time as well. It was nice to greet him and tell him I had returned for another fabulous meal. He directed me...to a breezy, quiet corner to enjoy my "Contractors Lunch". The service is excellent (don't be in a hurry folks), the food (and cold beer) are excellent and for the price the portions are just right! I will look forward to returning again when my travels bring me to this amazing little port town.More
Had taken a morning tour and was early afternoon when we were returned to the ship. Wanted to do some shopping before going on board and since we were also hungry we decided to have lunch too. Wanted something different, local culinary choices seemed a...nice break from ship's daily chow ( good but basically same old ). Food was excellent, a refreshing change, local flavors. Would rate a five if service better, waitress indifference to customers was an aggravation. Liked the décor, no a/c so a little warm. We both had shrimp dishes and they are very generous with serving size, delicious. Some of the largest shrimp I have ever been served.More
We visited Gugas restaurant for lunch while we waited for our bus. The moment we walked in there were two waitresses using their cellular phones and no other guests. They both looked at me and my girlfriend with a sigh, as if they were thinking...“oh no, now we have to work”. This was how they acted several times during our lunch. Another very annoying thing was that they watched you eating and while you literally had the last bite in your mouth they asked if you were done while they took the plate away. The WiFi was the most important thing for us since we needed it to plan our trip, but it did not work until we had to leave. When we payed for our meal the waitress told me the transaction failed, she told me to pay again and it worked. I was a bit skeptical because she could not present a receipt showing me the first attempt of paying failed. I looked at my internet bank and I had payed twice. I told the manager and he gave me back the money for the second payment but I had the feeling it was not a mistake that we payed twice. The food was actually very good. Since everything else was bad, they only get 2/5.More
We are on the Princess Cruise line ship, the Coral Princess, and asked the crew where they eat when they are in this port. They all said GUGAS. So we went. Yummy! The garlic clams are so garlicky and the whole red snapper cannot be...beat. It’s a place for visitors and locals alike. Very easy to find. The port town is not that big. Don’t miss this place. It’s one of the best places to eat in town. Hands down!More
You wouldn’t think a place a block from cruise ship terminal would be good but this place is. I had the fish cerviche to start (and they had several selections) and the while frid snapper. The rest of our gang had the traditional lunch with...rice chicken or seafood. Came with salads and beer was cold!!More
Wow what a nice squid, very soft and tasty. Highly recommended. Also the fish 'red snapper' very well done and quite sizable. Very friendly service.
excellent ceviche nice atrisan beer very friendly owner and beautiful atmosphere. the whole snapper is out of this world it cost 15USD and is fabulous.
What a restaurant!!!! Started with a uniquely delicious Carpaccio, moved on to a "melt in your mouth" Schnitzel, and tried a JUMBO SHRIMP from my mother-in-law's dish. Everything was freshly prepared and delicious!!!!
We were on a cruise through the Panama Canal. Sadly most of our ports didn't afford us the opportunity to eat locally. But we finally found a place to eat in Punta Arenas. The local draft beer is a wonderful accompaniment to their sautéed octopus...and garlic shrimp. The owner is German and has been in Costa Rica for 28 years. We also had free WiFi with our meal, an added bonus. The food was tasty and such a relief from cruise food! Wished we had more time and bigger stomachs to try more dishesMore
Near pier, so very convenient if you arrived via cruise ship. Everything was delicious. Slow sevice by our standards, but I think more a cultural thing. Pura Vida!
