We went there for dinner primarily as it is close to the Tica bus station but we were also curious from positive TA reviews. They are all right: the food is extraordinary in quality and preparation. No wonder as the owner worked a long time as a cook in embassies. The onion soup followed by a pork filet with mashed... More

French Cuisine does not come available in quantities in San José, Costa Rica. It is actually quite scarce as it is and not all who advertise as French are actually what you expect. They are mostly some kind of fusion. This place is different and holds surprises and rewards if you are patient and avoid rushing things. If you are... More

Love this place. Tommy is hilarious, and the food is to savor. Eclectic joint. Cabbies have trouble finding it. But I guarantee, you will find it worth the effort. Tuesday night, not crowded. Tommy had to interrupt his dice game... 😋

Tommy greets you at the door, makes sure your comfortable at your table and cooks great food. He has suggestions that he has made that day or a menu, which I haven't seen as I go with Tommy's suggestions. Nice atmosphere with good music in the background. I'll be going again one day.

Where do we begin? I think the best way is to let you know about a most wonderful and extremely delicious restaurant/gallery we found in Costa Rica called La Bastille! Now THIS is southern hospitality meets Costa Rica at it's finest!Owner/Chef Thomy greets you, seats you, (no you're not dreaming your table is covered with a hand painted table cloth!)... More

I have been here many times and aside from the first visit, I never even ask for the menu. Just ask "Tommy" what he recommends today and unless it is something I know, I don't like (pork for example) then I go for the suggestion. I have never been disappointed ever. If interested, you can hear how he discovered this... More

We came here for our mom's birthday a few weeks ago. The service is fantastic and the food like none other in San Jose. The chef is gracious, interesting and has knowledge to boot! Very recommended.

In short: This is our favorite restaurant in San José. And we tried at least 30 different ones. Fantastic food, great, personal service, nice ambience and reasonable prized.
