Enclosed in century old wooden panelling the restaurant is open to the street on two sides and welcomes you in. It's a simple place serving a range of local food and could be considered a little touristy but makes a great place for a snack and some drinks on a hot day. The staff are very helpful, can advise on... More

"mas de 100 años a su servicio" - a very old bar/restaurant - check out all the old woodwork. Comida típica. More a grab a quick bite to eat place than a real sit-down, full dinner place. On a very busy corner - lots to watch! The night I was there a 3-piece mariachi band wandered thru while a drawing... More

The best thing about this restaurant is the character. Per the menu, it has been operating for 104 years. The place has approximately 15 tables, old wood decor and during the time we were there, Santa Claus and Christmas tablecloths. I had the chicken Casado which had a chicken leg in a tomato sauce, beans, rice, small green salad with... More

We were walking around on our last day and saw this place had high reviews and was cheap. I got the bistek meal and loved it! So delicious , and nice atmosphere. We are here on our last day in CR after traveling to Quepos and La Fortuna , the day before flying out from San Jose Airport

It was not easy to find the fish in the sopa the Mariscos, it was also not easy to find the palmitos in the salade con palmitos. There are better similar priced lunchoptions ar some steps from here , so after two times we gave it up

We had a lunch there, we wanted to eat a casado con pollo. The waitress did not gave any smile at any moment, we paid nearly 30$ for two casados, two drinks, two coffees and a piece of flan. You can definitely eat something good, 30% cheaper with happy faces and smiles in one of the other "sodas" around. Avoid... More

Our food was decent when we stopped at Chelles for an early dinner and a beer. Pork, rice and beans dish and chicken and rice dish. Pork was tasty, rice and beans bland- served in separate piles. Chicken and rice was nice, did not need accompaniment of chips, these were average. Salad would have been sufficient. Priced reasonably- although we... More

I adore visiting local gems, and I was hoping that this would be one of them in San Jose. The ambiance at Chelles take one back in time...the feel is from years past and the decor is one of a bar or diner from the 40s. The food however was mediocre at best. We tried our best to swallow soggy... More

We popped into Chelles to have a cold beer or two after walking around the city and do a spot of people watching. This is a small TICO restaurant with a dozen tables or so, traditional decor and has been around for a long time. We visited twice and ate traditional taco food on the return visit. I can highly...
