About
Glyn and Alison, have run the Castle Inn since 2016. A family-run pub, restaurant and rooms located on the Pembrokeshire coast - just a 5 minute walk from the beach. Having worked in kitchens all her life Alison has gone from helping college students progress their skills in culinary classrooms to heading up the Castle Inn kitchen. Her team are keen to support local as much as possible, using nearby suppliers whenever available. The menu is ever-changing but you are sure to find hearty pub classics, light bites, and family favourites throughout. The Inn also has three guest bedrooms (with en-suite bathrooms and tea/coffee facilities), a large beer garden, free off-road parking, and is dog-friendly.

Visited tonight (11/9) with 9 friends. Service was great with all staff wearing masks and the whole place seems to be adhering to current Covid 19 Rules!
Can’t fault the food and everyone in our party agreed. However have to say my wife and I ordered cheese and biscuits and at just under a tenner for dessert for 3 small pieces of cheese and a few biscuits I consider it a rip off and prevented me from giving 5 stars! So to sum up a great restaurant with caring staff and good food but steer clear of the Cheese and biscuits!

We dropped into the bar the day before to book a table for 6 of us to have dinner the following day.
The staff were extremely helpful and managed to fit us in as long as we agreed to table time which we were happy to do.
All the Covi-19 procedures were strictly observed and its comforting to see them being operated effectively.
We enjoyed our meal apart from some potatoes which were apparently a little bland.
It was our grandsons birthday and the restaurant served up cake and candles which was good of them.
We moved off the table and stayed on for a while afterwards.
Its a very nice restaurant serving good quality food with friendly helpful staff apart from one young impertinent waitress who was overhearing our conversations and gave us her point of view, she needs a little retraining.
Total bill for an enjoyable meal to include all food and drinks came to £147.00.
Well done the Castle Inn, we will return if we holiday that way again in the futrue.

Me and the girlfriend stayed at Ecton house for the evening and went to the Castle Inn for food.
It was a very short drive and had parking which made it a very practical choice.
It was the Friday before Christmas so was extremely busy in the bar but we were directed to the restaurant at the back of the bar which had such a nice quiet atmosphere to it, really well looked after building.
The staff were fantastic, sat us down offered us water and other drinks, a gentleman then came over to us for a chat which I think must’ve been the owner, a real polite chap who made sure we were being well looked after the whole evening, food was fantastic and the girlfriend who is a vegetarian was extremely happy with the options she had.
We had starters which were very tasty and then moved onto our mains which were phenomenal in presentation and taste with generous portions, to put into context how good the food was, me and Lowri very rarely ever have dessert at a restaurant but we couldn’t resist trying out more of the food and with the great service we were being given we really were not in a rush to leave.
We finished our desert just in time as by that point a large group of very jolly men walked in from the bar giving everyone a bit of a headache. I genuinely cannot fault this place at all and I’m looking forward to taking another trip from Bristol soon to visit again

Throughout lockdown, they’ve provided us with many takeaways, all of which have been super yummy, fresh and of great quality.
Out of ALL the meals ( 😉), our favourites include the lamb burger, the halloumi burger and the battered halloumi! All were fantastic and their adaption to takeaway’s has been incredible, the food tasted just as good as it would sat down in the restaurant! The chips are the best we’ve had!
Also the Sunday roast we ordered was great, they’re making it far too easy to have a Sunday roast these days!
Awareness to the current circumstances was great, and we felt very safe picking up the food.
Thank you 😊

Popped in on a whim on a Friday lunchtime. Food was excellent - venison pie and burger had, both very good - was even impressed with the Stokes Mayonnaise sachet. The barman and other staff were lovely and chatty and we were made to feel very much at home in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Spent a week in Newport, we visited the Castle Inn several times, two of those times to eat. Great menu with local produce that catered for all our family which can be awkward with our youngest being a fussy eater but no problems here, missed out on the “specials” which looked and sounded wonderful but what we ate was excellent quality.Considering our first night eating was the first day eating/drinking indoors was allowed in Wales since lockdown the service was superb, friendly and seamless despite the restraints. Highly recommend this wonderful family run business without hesitation, but remember to book under the current circumstances.

We called in for lunch with our two children on spec and were not disappointed. The menu is full of great choices for everyone, including a separate children’s menu. They have the best gluten free range we have ever seen and lots of veggie options too which is not always the case in a traditional pub. The pub has a friendly atmosphere (dogs welcome) and the staff were attentive. The food was excellent and, we felt good value. My only grumble was the custard was not hot and this was rectified immediately so still worthy of 5 stars.

We had a fantastic meal at the castle. The menu choice was great and our choices were fantastic especially the salt and pepper squid. The attention given to us was outstanding. Our waitress checked in with us regularly and we felt like we were dining in a michelin star restaurant. Highly recommend.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at The Castle Inn. Room was very clean and comfortable and a great size for a B&B. We ate here in our first night - both had ribeye perfectly cooked and very nicely presented. This visit was during COVID-19 restrictions and we were very impressed how all staff managed and how hard they’ve all worked to get the Castle Inn ready for visitors. Glyn, Alison and the team - well done all of you. Your hard work, long shifts and attention to detail made our visit one we’ll remember. See you soon.

Very accommodating establishment, first visit on Monday evening they fitted us in on a table outside with no booking & we then booked in their restaurant on Wednesday.
Menu is varied, food quality very good, staff friendly & efficient, well set up for Covid regs too...highly recommended!

We visited the Castle during late August and again in December 2020. On both occasions we were served by a very professional, polite gentlemen. In August we ate outside. Our bar meals were very nice and we enjoyed sampling the Offshore lager. In December we visited the Christmas cafe and were served by the same chap and a lady. We had the same friendly and helpful welcome as we received in August. On both occasions they also welcomed our dog and gave her some treats. The Christmas cafe was very pleasant and we enjoyed some turkey sandwiches, with alcohol free lager. I can't express how well organised they were on both occasions in relation to covid. We observed them cleaning down tables regularly and providing clear screens in the Christmas cafe between tables. Such a nice place, made even more special by the staff. Thank you for being so welcoming during such difficult times for you! We hope to perhaps stay with you next time. Best wishes.

We went here into the beer garden 3 times during our week in Wales when the Covid restrictions were lifted to allow you to eat outside.
Obviously it was quite busy, but still the staff were very friendly and welcoming.
We had our 3 dogs with us and they were also made to feel welcome and each given a big bonio dog treat.
The 3 meals we had were yummy and consistent in quality and freshness.
Would we go here again when visiting this area of Wales? Yes definitely !!

Circumstances (C19) meant that we’d had to wait 12 long months to finally visit the Castle Inn, situated in Newport, on Pembrokeshire’s north-western coast, lockdowns had delayed our arrival.
I could start the review with clichés such as ‘the extra mile’, ‘home from home’, ‘nothing was too much trouble’ . . . but I won’t.
In fact . . . I have . . . and all the above apply!
Glyn and Alison, their son Thomas, and their wonderful team, provide a service as good as any we have encountered in a pub with rooms.
However, pub with rooms does not give The Castle the credit it well deserves . . . it serves quality food, perfectly cooked and presented, prepared in-house, with touches often only experienced at many renowned restaurants.
Obviously, it’s a pub too and crystal clear beers are available, as is an excellent wine list.
We happened to be the first staying guests after Wales had relaxed its Covid restrictions, but certain rules still apply and Glyn and Co follow them precisely and meticulously.
Oh, our room . . . it was spotless, as was the complete premises.
I will end now, I could write more, however, suffice it to say that we are planning a return before the year’s end . . . I imagine if you visit the Castle you will, most probably, do likewise.
And yes . . . it was definitely WTW.

What a lovely way to celebrate. We’ve eaten several times at The Castle over the past year and decided to celebrate New Years Eve with family at the Castle. I had haggis to start which was excellent. The service is always friendly and attentive. Everyone is catered for, personally I have a chilli allergy which is no problem for them.
It’s good food with plenty of variety.
100% happy from me.

We ate here a few weeks back and the only thing I can think is the chef was having a bad day since the reviews on here are mostly so positive. The burger and sweet potato fries they served were in no way worth the money they are now charging. I appreciate the cost of ingredients have risen but that still doesn’t justify charging the amount they do without delivering on quality. We will try eating there again to give them a second chance but if they fail to deliver like they did the last time we won’t be going there again as there are constantly better places to eat in Newport. Also, £35 for a steak if you want peppercorn sauce, outrageous. The golden lion which had historically been overpriced currently charges £27 for the same dish which again is expensive in it’s own right but appears a bargain compared to what the Castle charge…….These places are purely pricing their menus for the rich second home/ holiday let demographic.
