I enjoy everything about So Yum: the yummy morsels, the excellent wine selection, the attentive staff, the generous surprises when you mention you'd like something different and the relaxed ambience. Just try it... it might even become one of your go-to places, too.

We chose So Yum for dinner despite reading a number of negative reviews about the service and the food. However we were very pleasantly surprised. We had Raymond as out waiter and he was an absolute delight. He was on the ball, energetic and provided...More

So Yum used to be such a well-run restaurant, with a lovely interior. It has gradually deteriorated to the extent that the couches are need serious reupholstery (foam showing...), rather urgently! Our food last night was good, especially the dim sum (esp the spinach and...More

Cozy atmosphere, food was enjoyable and tasty. We had their winter warmer menu (see picture) as it was something different. You are served all the items on the menu in suitably sized portions so you feel satisfied and not over full. Service was good. Would...More

As someone who has been in food service for a while I know some things and I must say, over the years, it's made me quite observant. That being said, if service is good then I tend not to pay too much attention to other...More

We stopped in for a light lunch, the restaurant was less than busy. The first omen was when a couple at another table sent their meal back for a second attempt. From the start service was slow and inattentive to say the least. Eventually we...More

Been going to So Yum for years but change In Management has changed things for the worse. Dim sum rice paper wrapping is now thick and stodgy, fillings had prawn shells in. Hong Kong pears were chunky and chicken bone in, and spicy seafood soup...More

This restaurant could not be more aptly named! Super ambiance for a catch up between old friends. Sushi starter was just delicious, dim sum mains were sumptuous and more sushi for dessert, because anything that yummy should be repeated! I'd definitely say if you like...More

Having spent 10 years living in China I try to not eat Chinese food when away because I inevitably am disappointed. Such was the case with So Yum. A sort of fusion,as it has sushi (like many other places in the Hyde Park shopping centre)...More

“Yum Cha”, an age old Chinese cuisine style, celebrates the unique culinary art of Dim Sum. It is this inimitable gastronomic offering which So Yum presents as a haven for friends, family and colleagues to gather in appreciation of healthy, fresh, wholesome and ultimately – premium quality food and drink. The soul of our restaurant rests in Dim Sum, which aptly translates to 'touch the heart'. Our heavenly, bite sized morsels are filled with a variety of high quality meat, seafood and vegetable fillings. Each parcel is individually prepared with great skill and care, before being steamed, baked or pan-fried – according to your personal preference. Our extensive Dim Sum menu is complemented by exquisite flowering and fragrant teas, which will not only aid digestion, but also stimulate your already burgeoning appetite. The pleasure of the Dim Sum dining experience has evolved over many years. Today, many enjoy and accept this art as a staple dining culture; where many or merely a few dishes can be ordered and savoured at any sitting. Our assiduously selected menu also offers sensational Asian style salads, aromatic curries, wok stir-fries, as well as a delectable assortment of noodle dishes. All original recipes are lovingly executed to maintain the authenticity of the four main Asian flavours, namely: sweet, sour, spicy and salty.Adding to this, our beverage selection is the toast of the town with, amongst others, freshly squeezed vegetable and fruit juices to live for. Languish in our beautiful flowering and aromatic teas, which are allowed to draw naturally in exclusively designed tea pots. For something a little more risqué, sip on our sublimely mixed cocktail menu featuring classics such as Cosmopolitans, Mojitos and Margaritas, or alternatively, turn to our excellent array of locally produced South African wines. Whether it's a quick, healthy meal that you crave, an intimate dinner with your partner, a business luncheon, or celebratory gathering with family and friends – So Yum is the ideal culinary experience for the vibrant individual.
