Positive feedback: Tempura scallops were amazing!! We also enjoyed the sushi platter and the amazing wasabi. Negative feedback: Waiter did not seem to be interested to do his job. Asked 3 time for green tea and never received it. Had to ask to remove the green tea from the bill. Restaurant did not seem busy, bottle of water was put... More

Kyoto was such an amazing experience! I'm a big fan of the finer details in a dining experience, and was thoroughly impressed by how the ambiance, the warm welcoming staff, and the amazing food all worked together to create this amazing experience. We had a beautiful hostess and waiter that were well knowledgeable in the cuisine, and did not shy... More

This place has one negative- it's expensive. For the rest I love it. The atmosphere and interior are very warm and inviting. The service is slick. And the food is delicious. Oh and they have a good booze selection including interesting SA wines and Japanese whisky.

Although this restaurant is a bit more expensive than others in the area, we still felt it was worth going. We had sushi, which was done well and we had no complaints, tempura - very very beautifully done and a duck noodle soup - a phenomenal broth. It's been weeks I have left Cape Town, but I still remember that... More

I wanted to try this place because it looked nice when I passed. I was hoping to finally taste some great sashimi... but it was not meant to be. The GOOD: The ambiance is warm, welcoming and quite cozy. The owner seems to be a nice man. The BAD: The sashimi was, even to South African standards. quite tasteless. The... More

This was my fourth visit to Kyoto Garden. The food is sublime and beautifully presented. Flavours are intense, well combined, a bit of real Japanese cuisine created by a real Japanese chef. The stand out items, amongst many super dishes, were The Sea, a seafood consommé, and the calamari starter. All the dishes were pretty tiny, but the ingredients were... More

ignore what they might say of anyone's attitude, the food and drinks are simply outstanding at Kyoto Gardens. All dishes we ordered were exquisitely prepared, very tasty and original; the cocktail list has some truly great twist on classics and we found the service more than pleasant - once we were let out of the side room with a big... Finally I found a venue that is authentic in its cuisine. So no crossover rubbish, plain and simple Japanese. Staff well trained, food outstanding . You can't just walk in so reservations essential.

Sushi has become really popular in Cape Town – from only a few restaurants offering it a decade and a half ago, you can now get it in your local supermarkets, and in about any restaurant offering fish, apart from the many dedicated sushi places themselves – with or without conveyer belt. But, while I think sushi’s combination of rice,... More
