recommended to us by a local restaurant manager, this place is worth the walk up Bree Street. It was packed so we could only find a seat outside but there were patio heaters! The choice of cocktails was very eclectic, with lots to choose from. Service was quite slow, possibly because we were sat outside, but we got there quite... More

All of the cocktails are quite creative- the gin and tonic comes in a plastic bag with a straw. Another drink came in a tea cup. I ordered the nachos libre that was a warm cocktail served in a glass bottle in a brown paper bag (with nachos on the side). The food was ok but the drinks and the... More

We visited as a large group and sampled most of the tapas and numerous cocktails. Everything was very good. The bar has a good atmosphere with a mixture of standing and seating areas. The service was fine but I think we had a new waiter which probably meant the service wasn't as smooth as it could have been.

I researched drinking places before leaving NY. The Orphanage kept popping up. I added it to my list of places to visit. Yes!! It's All That!! The owner, the staff was top notch. The food and drinks were unbelievable. When I return to Cape Town in 2018, The Orphanage will have a returning customer from NY in their midst.

Looking for some fun times, close but not quite in the busy Long Street? Orphanage was a great experience, especially the drinks were worth it. I also liked the decor and general ambiance. I would visit it again.

Hip bar with outdoor seating and a dark interior......good cocktail list, one drink basically causes the bartender to set himself on fire.......

I brought a group of 6 travelers to this bar. We had a number of drinks and appetizers. When the bill came, I asked the server to add a 10% tip. I did not check the bill as it was dark and I can't see so well. When I got home, I noticed she added a 15% tip and then... More

Orphanage is on my wife and my bar hop. We normally hit it straight after the gin bar in the block before. Cocktails are a must. They do a great pornstar martini which is a granadilla martini with a shot of sparkling wine or a gin and tonic disguised as a fishbowl. Will definately be back.

Lovely intimate place to be at with friends and deep soulful house playing in the background on a Friday night. I would recommend this place to those that love good music and good cocktails.

I had heard rave reviews about the venue but when I finally got to hit this spot I was sorely disappointed. While we were cheerfully greeted at the door, the service received from the waitress was appalling. Drinks were rather pricey and this is certainly not a spot for those hitting the town on a budget. There are only two... More

Orphanage takes its unconventional name from its location on Orphan Street, so named as the orphan children of Cape Town used to gather there in the early 1900’s. The low-key brown doorway with a key-shaped spy-hole is an ‘Alice through the looking glass’ entrance into a beautifully detailed, quirky cocktail club which opened rather unusually, with a blessing by the Archdeacon and a drink on the menu is dedicated to the present day Children’s Home that was founded as a result of his predecessors efforts. Harking back to the drinking dens of the early 1900’s; Orphanage offers an extraordinary theater of cocktail alchemy, an unpretentious, top-quality sharing food menu of which the star is the signature crayfish rolls & truffle chips & a remarkable and rich history from the vibrant Mother City. Expect a laid back vibe, DJ's spinning deep-house & dancing until 2am.
