We wanted breakfast on a Saturday morning and they open not a second before 8am and not at all on Sundays according to the menu! The menu is a bit different - nicely so - so worth trying from that point of view. At least they know what a cortado coffee is!

Ironically they ran out of bread by the time we got there! But what we had was tasty and fresh, quickly prepared and pretty cheap. Really liked the setting too.

We are glad to hear you enjoyed our café venue and the food you ordered. We do our best to have bread available, however on some days it flies out despite our best planning! Thanks so much for your visit and for taking time to review île de païn. We hope to welcome you again soon. More

We had lunch and tarts here on my birthday. The area is boring; we could hardly kill time walking around when we were told to come back in 15 minutes to be seated. I was amazed by the amount of burnt bread I saw, for a place that prides itself in baking special bread. I ordered a basket of bread... More

A visit to Ile de pain is always an experience, from artisan breads made from stone ground flour, to locally sourced cheese and coffee, Ile de Pain has it all. A loyal, helpful, efficient staff ensures you are well cared for and watching the baking process while you eat adds to the experience.

When the café was redesigned we wanted our guests to be able to experience the process by which the bread, pastries and meals reach the dining room. To this end one can view the kitchen and patisserie through windows inside the café, observe the bakers at work through glass doors leading onto our outside area and of course, our pride... More

We ate lunch here on a Friday afternoon and it was delicious. The food is outstanding as are the goods you can buy at the bakery. Try the bread it's outstanding as is the friendly and professional service.

Our first visit this year and we wish we had more time as it is our last day in Knysna. We had an excellent duck and chicken mousse with Apple strudel with home made ice cream. The service was very good and the atmosphere brilliant on this sunny warm day.

Thanks for visiting. Apple strudel was an excellent choice if you only had one opportunity to try our pastries! More

One of our favourite spots for breakfast on our annual trip to Knysna. Very friendly staff, a nice range of choices for breakfast (they also serve lunch but we have not been there for lunch so can't comment). They also sell their delicious bread to take home with you. Lovely atmosphere both inside their newly restored interior, or outside under... More

Having been away in London for 6 months I only experienced their new restaurant a few weeks ago, in early Feb. I was so disappointed to see a cavernous space with none of the intimate spaces they had had before. It felt like a generic copy of a Canteen that Museums have in the UK. All the magic was gone.... Thanks for taking time to write a review and welcome back to the Garden Route! One of my favourite lunch items is a fantastic vegan dish called Seedy Sally - nut and seed flatbread, vegetable pâté, vegetable ribbons, sprouts and za'atar. It's nutritious and delicious! We also have an amazing breakfast bowl called Bali Muesli - grain and dairy free,... More

ILE DE PAIN is resurgent!!!---the tastiest food on an extensive menu in a spacious garden CAFE/ the efficient service was given with advice and a friendly smile---There was a constant "BUZZ" of chat; people relaxing and cultivating the art of enjoying themselves-----and the Patisserie /bread counter was stocked with a choice of delights to take home. What a pleasure!!!.

We ate breakfast here twice: it's a great outdoor setting and a beautifully designed interior. The service was good and the breakfasts were good, but not excellent. I can recommend the baked yoghurt with fruit and the cappuccinos . The eggs looked rather plain but the breads were good as it is an artisanal bakery.

Description
We are ile de pain 2.0, a team of authentic artisans and devoted individuals; foodies, fundis, artists, professionals and dreamers, all waiting to welcome you to our magical cafe. We are committed to honest food and superlative service, upholding heritage and embracing evolution, supporting traditional farmers and local suppliers, developing people and creating community.

Our cafe dishes offer a superlative level of honest sophistication in flavour and creative visual presentation. Each dish is lovingly and mindfully prepared using simple, fresh and beautiful ingredients that we hand select. We bake bread - good, honest bread that tastes the way it ought to. Our patisserie creates rustic yet refined desserts that offer a balance of delicate and decadent. We cultivate relationships with valued local growers who produce in small quantities and are entirely devoted to their land and craft.

ile de pain is a place to gather, making friends of strangers. We find our guests respond to the energy of the cafe, and in turn fill it with life, adding to the unique experience that it is. Our new light and airy, open-plan layout encourages patrons to witness our team at work and understand the way in which we lovingly prepare “real” food.
