I had dinner plans fall through one night and asked a local friend of mine to suggest where I could grab a nice dinner. She recommended this spot and I was totally blown away by the food. Unexpectedly exceptional. I ordered the french onion soup and lamb gigot. And it's reasonably priced. 5 star spot.

We found this restaurant in the the busy street of Defensa. After settling into our table we were approached by the owner, Pascal, who is a superb host. Pascal made us feel so welcome and was both professional and friendly at the same time. The food was the best (I recommend the French Onion Soup as a starter). The Brasserie... More

Always when I'm in Buenos Aires I try to eat at this place. The food is really delicious, the wine selection is great, the ambiance is super cool. Good price. Definitely a place to go!

Went to Brasserie Petanque in Buenos Aires. Had a fantastic French meal - the food is excellent without the inflated prices. The highlight though is the owner of the restaurant who went out of his way to make us feel welcome. He recognised our Kiwi accents and came to our table to introduce himself - he has visited New Zealand.... More

Had a wonderful onion soup, brilliant lamb and the best desert I've ever tasted, an apple pie. Some places are average, some leave you wanting, this place left me wanting to go back. Great service/people too.

This is our favorite restaurant in San Telmo. We went back twice this trip (as we did our last trip!!!). As there are no real vegetarian options we had to eat fish; everything we had was excellent except for the chips which looked better than they actually were. The chocolate volcano and crème brûlée were the reason we went back... More

It's the second time we've been to Pétanque and we love the food there.. so much that my partner over eats as he has is not accustomed to the richness of the French cuisine with an abundance of butter and wine used in the preparation of their dishes. Which of course makes it more delicious. The service very good. The... More

The service was very good, but the food was so - so. The duck was very dry and tasteless. The wine was good, of course. The steak was good but not especially a good cut of meat.

Authentic French Brasserie with traditional French cuisine, onion soup, steak tartar, duck confit, beef bourguignon, salmon tartar, profiteroles, tatin tart and of course the best creme brulee in Buenos Aires. You can find Brasserie Petanque in Santiago of Chile too..

Staying in Montserrat

Neighbourhood Profile
As part of the historic quarter of Buenos Aires, Montserrat is defined by the historical events that took place there and the landmarks that have stood the test of time. The Plaza de Mayo is at the center of this connection to history: countless public demonstrations have passed through this square, going back to the May Revolution of 1810. Walking the streets of Montserrat allows us to imagine what Buenos Aires may have looked like in the past: the Cabildo takes us back to the late 16th century, while the Palacio Barolo and the traditional cafés carry us to the early 20th. Nowadays, the neighbourhood is inundated every day by office workers, buses, and taxis; still, the cobblestones, narrow sidewalks, and subway stations from the 1910s remind us that we are surrounded by history everywhere we look.
