It is just the best italian place in Buenos Aires. Perfect antipasto. Perfect pasta. Perfect desserts. Unpretentious, good food, good service, authentic italian place. Dont eat past anywhere else. Save your italian food craving for il Materello.

Four of us ate there last week and it was delicious! We all ordered Lasagne, followed by tiramasu for dessert and cappuccino -- all excellent. Pricey by Argentinian standards but worth it :)

We were taken to this restaurant by our day guide,Matilda, at her recommendation. It was a highlight and not to be missed if you like outstanding Italian food and a first class operation. This is a family-run business and we met several members, including our waiter who was a son of the owners. The recipes are direct from Nonna, who... More

Ok, recently returned from Rome and Venice so let's comment on Matarello's: Location is superb, with outdoor and indoor tables. (Better inside) Lack of outdoor infraestructure qhen compared to La Cabrera, even Estilo Campo. A mix between argentinean bar and average italian restaurant. Table service: over the average, lack of enthusiasm, at least for a uss 200+ table. Pepper/Salt/parmiggiano absent... More

we went for lunch and had a nice meal (a bit on the heavy side, fried, cream etc...) the food was really tasty, grandmother style, but was served without grace, for example the starte was fried vegetable croquettes and that came solo, without dressing, salad, lemon, sauce ....

My girlfriend and I both got pastas and a bottle of wine as a late lunch. We are stuff and not sure if we have room for dinner. Wonderful place to come to eat pasta.

A return trip for my wife and I who enjoyed Il Materello 8 years ago. We salivated thinking about the pasta we would enjoy when we returned and were not disappointed. It took us a while to get the waiter's attention and when I got him to come over and complained about being ignored he told us that our menu... More

Very good Italian pasta, in many variations: stuffed, dried, lasagna. All fantastic! We have been in this restaurant many times, and every time is an enjoyable experience. The atmosphere is nice, simple but cozy. The service is remarkably friendly. I warmly recommend this restaurant if you want to try authentic Italian food in Buenos Aires.

Staying in La Boca

Neighbourhood Profile
La Boca
A neighbourhood defined by its immigrant roots, La Boca still maintains this past alive in its streets today. Due to its proximity to the river, the neighbourhood became the preferred settling area for immigrants of a wide variety of origins, who ended up living together in the conventillos. Thus, these houses became a melting pot of different cultures and traditions that birthed creations like tango and lunfardo. Nowadays, this legacy can be seen and felt on Caminito Street, which welcomes visitors with colourful facades, cobblestones, and street artists showcasing their skills. Just like its neighbor San Telmo, La Boca is one of the prime destinations to experience the traditions and customs that originated from the city’s immigrant past and which have shaped its distinct identity.
