We love to check out local spots, and this is definitely one of the best in town. This place has lots of character, and the food is not so bad either! I wouldn't say it's the best bbq I've ever had, but when you consider the other alternatives in town, you can't go wrong here. Good thing we were not... More

We stopped in Brinkley after seeing a highway sign about Ivory Billed Woodpeckers last sighted in 2004. Gene's had several cars parked in front so we stopped for lunch, not expecting a great meal. They had some menu items with names to honor the woodpoeckers once an area inhabitant. I tried the BBQ which tasted good. My wife found fat on... More

This restaurant used to be the best restaurant in town, but the owner has completely lost interest. It used to serve fresh smoked meat, home cooked food and homemade desserts. I'm not sure that anything is freshly made anymore. Most of the food seems to be purchased from food services, meaning heat and eat.

I'm not a BBQ Master and I suspect neither is Gene. The BBQ pork was average at best. But my biggest disappointment was the fried pies. You might say that my sister and I are on a quest for a good fried pie like Mama used to make. So when we saw them listed on the menu and the selections... More

Friendly service with excellent BBQ choices, and steak and desert. Everyone friendly and helpful in our visit re our trip. Nearby Days Inn, and picnic tables off ramp selling peaches and watermelon make it nice, quiet place to visit.

I am not sure what is going on here but I was disappointed my last 2 times visiting there. The service was almost non existent, baked potato hard inside, just a bad meal. Maybe they have new wait staff, new cooks. I will try it again but no more bringing outside visitors there, just me.

Don't let the looks of the place scare you. Gene's BBQ has great food. The beef ribs were super tender in a well balanced sauce. No sticky sweet BBQ here. The ribs came with a roll, coleslaw, potato salad and beans. The beans were not sweet either. The hamburger was freshly made and cooked to specifications. While the place looks... More

Nice place for breakfast or lunch on way to water park. Had good food fair price and a neat story about a woodpecker seen in the woods by a bird watcher. Not sure if it's another Bigfoot story but it entertainment and everything else was nice. Very country environment.

I had pork plate and it was tough with lots of fat. The beans tasted like canned. The sauce too sweet. I will make a different choice next time

Stopped in and had to wait 40 minutes on the worst food I've ever been served. The waitress was very nice but that is the only nice thing to be said for this place. The men's restroom was filthy. Absolutely the worst ribs. Tasted like warmed over food! Certainly will not be back.
