Authentic local food - even in February!

I highly recommend this wonderful place! On a Saturday night in February when most of the rest of the town was closed, this place was cosy - with an open fireplace and the chef tending to giant skewers of meat on the charcoal bbq by the door. The service was just as warm - and in English, which we appreciated. We had tzatziki, mix grill (as recommended by the waiter - delicious lamb and pork!) and a Greek salad to share. Mouthwatering!

Amazing simple Greek food

Delicious simple food. The owner could not have been more generous, he gave us free aubergine dip made with aubergines he grew himself, free chips, water etc. Glad to support a small local tavern and delicious lamb souvlaki. Great prices too, highly recommend.

Grilled meat experts

Grilled meats, not much else, but the grilled lamb souvlaki were delicious, and generous portions. House wine was more than acceptable. We were served ouzo and honey melon on the house. Top service from friendly staff. Situated right across from a petrol stn, but don’t let that put you off.

Excellent food and overall experience!

We have had a great time at Skaros Tavern, a family managed location where all members are part if the experience. The food is AMAZING, especially if you like grilled meat. We have had lamb, with home made salads ( green, greek, tzatziki, eggplant) and it has been delicious! The family is also extremely friendly and cheerful, which makes the overall experience at Skaros memorable. We highly recommend this place in case you are looking for an authentic greek experience! Well done, Skaros, thank you!

Rich dinner!!!

I was in this area during a trip with my girlfriend and we wanted to eat in a real Greek restaurant. I loved this place. The owners were wonderful people, very hospitable, and the food was simply excellent. I chose some grilled cheese and a mixed grill of meat. The meat was cooked to perfection. I also ate a tomato salad, really fresh and tasty, directly from the owners' garden. They also offered me a glass of Ouzo, a local Spirit, at the end of the dinner. I felt really welcomed and I was very happy. Absolutely fair prices, highly recommended!

Excellent giant bifteki from the charcoal grill

The taverna is located next to the Diviani Hotel. The first impression is not very inviting because it is situated at the Main Street to Kalambaka but it grows with the politeness of the owner. The Taverne is more a man’s place because the dishes are very big but of excellent quality. I tried the bifteki and couldn’t finish it - and I am a meat lover, particularly from the charcoal grill.

Scrumptious Food

Our regular Kalambaka mountain-side restaurant was closed this night so Skaros was recommended by friends (locals). My husband is Greek Cypriot and an amazing cook and he was definitely impressed with the grilled lamb, horta and potato fries. Absolutely scrumptious. Just enough salt to bring out the flavor of the meat and the fat was charred to perfect crispiness. Horta was perfectly wilted but still had the right crunch and the fresh lemon juice brought out the bitter, tangy flavors of the greens. Fried potatoes were thin enough for crunch on the outside and thick enough for fluffy insides. Nice table wine and Greek beer accompanied our very delicious dinner. On a Monday night, the restaurant’s tables were filled with young Greeks, families and couples enjoying a great dinner. Definitely a place to go back to. Overall, it was a great meal, with great hospitality and it was reasonably priced.

Restaurant run by a very friendly family. The tomatoes from their own garden are sublime, the home made tzatziki very tasty. Meat from a wood oven grill was absolutely delicious. But the hospitality made the evening. Thank you.

Really great place to have a real greek dinner. The Food was delicious and Mr. Kostas service was excellent. We had a really great time there and we recommend this place for everyone who wants to experience some greek Philloxenia.

Costa the host/owner explained the menu in detail. I’ve travelled across Greece and thank goodness found authentic non touristy Greek food. Well flavoured real chargrill flavours hospitality and flavours. Great value and price. Yiasou Costa!

Awesome restaurant at Kalambaka

Family run restaurant. The grilled meat was simply delicious. One of the best I ate in recent years. Price was very affordable. Service was very good too. 10/10 experience. Highly recommended.

Great taverna for grilled meats, friendly owner

We ate the Greek Tavern Skaros during our stay in Kalabaka. This place has really good grilled meats over fried potatoes. We had the grilled chicken and grilled pork, and they were both tasty. In addition, we had the tomato salad and tzatziki, which were both good too. Prices for the meal were very reasonable. The owner is very friendly. He prided himself in knowing his meats, especially as a butcher when he first started the taverna.

Wonderful restaurant in Kalambaka

Lovely restaurant with a beautiful interior dining room and extensive patio dining also. We sat outside but had our luggage with us and they were kind enough to find a place to keep it inside while we ate. Best tzatziki we have had. We had the pastitsio, moussaka and the lamb. All were very good, traditional greek flavors and ingredients. The wait staff were very attentive and accommodating. It was good enough that we would have gone back for another meal but we were leaving that day. Highly recommend.

Best grilled lamb ever!

The best lamb we ever had in Greece and in our life. A very nice family restaurant and they are all very nice people. Highly recommended if you want to enjoy a topical Greek food experience!!!
