We popped in here for lunch while on holiday in the area! The place smelt of decades of stale cigarette smoke. We ordered two lots of sandwiches on granary bread, they came on rather dry whole meal bread, with no explanation as to why the bread was different! We ordered a portion of 'chunky chips' to share, these turned out... More

Popped in for a drink after going out for tea. There was an incredibly strong smell of animals in the bar area, couldn't even smell the food being served over it! The last time we visited it was a lively vibrant bar and we were looking firward to having s relaxing drink there - what a disappointment; decided to drink... More

We've stayed here a couple of times and the rooms have always been spot on . Bathrooms immaculate, rooms clean and tidy and quite adequate. The pub part is a proper olde worlde , open fire roaring away, beer is tip top. Friendly atmosphere.

We popped in to the black swan while staying in middleham for the night. It's a lovely little but but best of all was the welcome we got from the lovely lady behind the bar. Unfortunately I am so bad with names but I'm sure it was Amy...??? Anyway she was so so helpful and went out her way to... More

Arrived here after a very long walk. Such a cosy pub, with a great atmosphere and a big fire to sit beside. Great beer, delicious food, great prices and best of all such friendly people who were very kind and couldn't do enough to help. We just didn't want to leave!

We went for a drink here after eating at the White Swan. The interior was very typical of a country pub, and we sat by the log fire, which was extra cosy. The landlady was super welcoming and although there was only a couple of people there, it was a really lovely place for a drink.

Called in and had a few pints of beer, it was quiet, but it was a Monday so that probably was the reason why, has we had driven past it Saturday and Sunday and it looked very busy. The roaring open fire was very warming.

One of those quaint little village pubs. The first thing you get with this place when you walk in is the smell( I'm only commenting on the day I was there) it smelt quite bad of foist/damp and burning, yes I know there's a coal fire in there but this wasn't your usual coal fire smell. Anyway, we sat down... More

This is located within a few minutes' walk of the castle, so was ideal for me. The staff were helpful and the room comfortable. The breakfast was delicious as well.
