After 49 years of cooking Christmas Day lunch for family and friends we decided to 'rebel' and booked in at the Blue Lion, a couple of miles from home. From the start to finish, it was memorable; delicious food, lovely atmosphere, attentive and professional staff. We fully intend to repeat our 'experiment' next year !

Having visited the Blue Lion on numerous occasions after shooting locally I thought it would be nice to take the family for lunch. The menu was fairly extensive with starters on chalk boards over the bar & main courses over the fire place, we also had a fixed price menu with plenty of choices. We all decided to have starters... The slowly cooked duck is simply the best duck dish I have ever had but if you do want to try it it's worth telling them when you book as it sells out very quickly. It has lots of different areas to eat, little nooks and crannies which makes it quirky and fun too. They have a really good wine... More

A perfect country pub. We visited on a recommendation and after a long dog walk we were looking forward to a good lunch and certainly we not disappointed. They had a good selection of real ales to be enjoyed in from of one of the log fires. There was a very tempting selection of food and both our starters and... More

This really is one of the best pubs in The Yorkshire Dales and over the last forty years we've been to most of them. It is a gastropub without being at all pretentious-you could stand at the bar and just have a pint without feeling uncomfortable, but then you would miss out on the wonderful food-the lunchtime set menu is one... Firstly, I know you will be reading some excelent reviews for this establishment which im sure they have clearly earned. I have to say the food was good and in no way are we complaining about this aspect what so ever. But the rest of the experience was a disaster from the start. We booked a table some time ago... The Blue Lion overlooks a picturesque little green. There are several walks from here of between 2 and 9 miles. Coaster fake walk takes you up the hills which whilst strenuous (as advised) does offer stunning views. The rooms are nicely decorated and clean staff are accommodating to needs including letting us dry our boots off in the boiler room.... More

Real old world charm, wooden floors, Edwardian feel, real old country pub with no "fake factor". Log fire, wooden pews, dogs in abundance. If you want minimalist style then don't come. If you want real character and a good Yorkshire experience then give this a try. Dogs allowed in rooms, very much a shooting pub.

Lovely food adequate portions dogs allowed which is great to be able to eat after a walk and not to leave the dogs in the car. The pub has lovely character.
