Bottle and Glass
Review
About
The Bottle & Glass in Picklescott, South Shropshire is now open for business again after a complete renovation and is under the new management of Jon Cornes. Dating back to the 17th century The Bottle & Glass is a quintessentially English country pub which offers accommodation and is full of rustic charm and character, with oak beams, open fires and a wonderfully warm atmosphere. Our carefully prepared menu which is inspired by classic English dishes uses locally sourced produce whenever possible. Jon can be found behind the bar serving some great local ales and fine wines all of which can be found at very competitive prices. Our Sunday lunch is ideal for all the family to enjoy and for special occasions ask for details of our Private Dining Room which we can make available for groups of up to twelve people. Whatever your reason for visiting The Bottle & Glass we can assure you of a very warm and friendly welcome from all of our staff from the moment that you walk through the door. We look forward to welcoming you soon

Just what a proper village pub should be! Plenty of chatty locals, very dog friendly, good value, nicely presented food and a range of different drinks including a very tasty flat local cider.
We visited 3 times during the week…..it was literally 50 yards away so we didn’t have an excuse not to!……and ate twice. Wednesday evening is steak night, and we had two sirloins and a bottle of Pinot for £48! Excellent quality meat and even better value.
On Friday we had fish and chips and pan fried sea bass with vegetables. Both were excellent.
Service is friendly and efficient (the bar man brought our drinks to the table even though we were 5’ away!
The locals were (mostly) interested in our two dogs and chatted happily with us about theirs and local life.
Like a lot of country pubs these days it’s not open on Monday or Tuesday, but when it is, it’s a real pleasure and one which will hopefully continue to thrive.

Small pub and restaurant (not open Mon or Tuesday). Fairly dark in the pub, spacious with good space around the tables. Home cooked food. My wife had smoked salmon on a crouton and salad, followed by lamb tagine, I had lightly battered (very tasty) squid followed by rump steak, chips, peas, onion rings, mushroom, grilled tomatoes. Food was all good, portions generous. Service was good and while you couldn’t criticise it wasn’t overly welcoming. Value was very good. Will certainly go again.

Used to visit here when I lived locally and noticed the excellent ratings on TA. We booked for an early dinner and it was quiet and a bit lacking in atmosphere, perhaps understandable considering the location.
Owner was friendly an we ordered a bottle of Red, reasonably priced and some olives, they were excellent.
Food was generally very good although the Lamb was a bit lacking at ÂŁ17. My friend said the peas were hard and there were no other vegetables.
A very good visit and I'm sure we'll be back again soon.

We’ve just moved to the area for a month and happened upon this delightful place. And aren’t we glad that we did!
The quality of the real ales is fabulous and they clearly know how to tend them. The staff are very friendly and welcoming: Vanessa, Nathaniel and George have made us feel at home. We’re looking forward to checking out the food soon. Every plate that has passed us has looked and smelled very inviting.
A warm and welcoming community spirit awaits you here.

Great little pub in the middle of nowhere. Tortuous country lane to get there but well worth it. With family stayed locally for a week and ate here 3 times out of 7 nights. Without doubt the best food we had all week. The main attraction is the steak pie....also the steak pie, and more especially the steak pie. Without doubt the best, absolutly the best pie we have ever had anywhere. It would win awards. Perfect pastry (top and bottom) full of succulent meat (no sludge), gravy to die for. I think you get the picture. I hope the same ladlord and landlay are still there and they continue their great food. Especially their pies.

This pub was recomended to us by our holiday accomodation hosts. They were not wrong, this is probably the best pub for grub anywhere in the area. Limited but adequate simple menu of wholesome meals. We intended to tour other local hostelries during our weeks stay but ate here 4 evenings out of 7 because it was so good. Reasonable prices, even for a bottle of wine! The absolute winner meal was the home made steak and ale pie. 2 of our party of 5 had this 3 days running. Best pie ever from any pub anywhere was the consensus and the other meals were top notch too. Nice big parking area in a really unspoiled little village in the heart of the Shropshire Hills a MUST to visit.

Delightful pub/restaurant that we are lucky to have as one of our locals. Menu is small which means it’s all freshly cooked, with plenty of choice and good size portions. My friend and I had the fish pie which was delicious, hubby had tagine. It’s a little hidden gem.

We came for Sunday lunch with my two sons and partners and little grandson and had the most lovely Sunday lunch. Nothing was too much trouble and my chicken roast was delicious and the gravy was just how I like it, thick and flavoursome, not watery and tasteless. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the service was spot on! I would highly recommend the Bottle and Glass if you are in the area for great food and a warm welcome

Read reviews and thought a must. Greeted by a young man who I am unsure if he had just started working there or was shy/ unsure. Nice staff though.
Chose the steak deal for my father and myself. Me a medium rare fillet. More medium well when arrived. It was a nice cut though. Chips were home made and lovely as was the pepper sauce. Dads sirloin was very well done to a point of being tough. Had to ask for the wine that came with the deal and on the bill there seemed to be charge a little extra. I was tired and did not raise it. Another in the group had the tikka and enjoyed it. My mother is a very plain eater due to health problems. I wish I had telephoned ahead. She wanted a plain piece of chicken, plain vegetable and boiled potatoes. They were unable to do plain chicken so I assume the two chicken dishes on menu were pre prepared. Seemed odd that not even a piece of chicken was available prior to marinade. She ended with ham and egg with potatoes and veg. Hardly touched anything except the egg. Another member had most of the ham.
Ice cream had by parents.
No track and trace on arrival, but they did have my name and mobile number from booking.

Current owners have done a great job smartening this old pub up. Cosy and warm. Service was excellent with very friendly lady looking after us, a party of 12. Lovely home-cooked food, we all enjoyed the evening and were made to feel very welcome. Many thanks.

We called in our way home from visiting Stokesay Castle as my son had stayed in the accommodation here a while ago. Huge fireplace lit and cosy feel. The shortcrust steak pie was fantastic, full of tender meat and probably the best I've ever eaten. Both our plates cleared.

The food was absolutely brilliant and absolutely exceeds the usual "pub grub" standards. We visited the pub 4 nights in a row and tried something different every night. We were never disappointed. Lovely, friendly atmosphere and the service was always on point. I was also very impressed with the Covid-19 measures that were in place. Everything was spotless. I hope to re visit this pub and the lovely village again one day.

The homely feel has gone. The fire is unlit and the Staff are not ones for a chat.
The fire has always been lit here which adds atmosphere even during the summer evenings. I visited with friends and we were so cold we ate in our coats in the restaurant. There was no one else in the restaurant or bar even though I heard someone ask for a take a way but they said they were too late (it was 8pm). Things have definitely changed over the past couple of years and it is no longer the warm friendly pub I remember. Having said that, the food is wonderful so it's worth a trip down miles of singleton's track country lanes to reach it.

Went for Sunday lunch, excellent food, very welcoming friendly service. Our walk took longer than expected and the Pub kindly kept the kitchen open so we were still able to have lunch. Good choice of food at reasonable prices.
Would definitely recommend.

We went twice for food and drinks in August whilst staying in Picklescott. Absolutely perfect. We would of been happy with a decent meal given its the only place around, but instead its some of the best food grub I've had. Good ambience, nice outdoor area in the quiet surroundings of Picklescott. Reasonable range of beers on and great range of quality food. A large part of why we would go back to Picklescott, or make a detour if nearby
