Visited the Mermaid yesterday for tea! I was greeted with smiles from the polite staff behind the counter, the shop was spotless and clean! I ordered a fish and chips and it came within seconds! Batter was light and crisp, the fish was succulent and flakey and the chips were to die for! Will definitely visit again!

Mermaid had very good fish and good chips - but a little greasy. The place itself is not the most visually appealing but the food is tasty and that is the most important thing. Price is also quite reasonable.

Popped in for lunch en route to Harlech. Portion was big, service was quick. But fish was overcooked. Crisp batter but the fish was cotton wool like as opposed to flakey. Chips were good. So just average for me. Not bad but nothing special.

Well priced and really good - decent sized portion of chips and lovely light and crispy batter on the cod. We were served quickly, even though there was quite a queue. Would happily visit here again - shame we don't live closer.

I used to go to the Mermaid as a child when we camped in Barmouth. I had such great memories of this place. Unfortunately it has deteriorated so much. The eating area was dirty & there was food squashed on the floor. Customer service was hit and miss. Sadly I won't be going back.

Best fish and chips in Barmouth, have being going to Barmouth for years and this place is the best for fish and chips, never had a bad meal from here, can be very busy in summer but worth the wait, you won't be disappointed, have tried the other two chip shops and this one is definitely the best

We've been coming here for a few years and always found the staff good, but dare ask for a lightly battered fish you just get "they are all lightly battered mate" if the wrong staff are on duty! Usually great, at times you'd best go to the harbour fish bar.... strange how poor staff can make the difference between great... More

Had a walk along the beach for a couple of hours stopped off for Fish & Chips with Mushy Peas and sat on a bench seat by the beach in beautiful sunshine to eat them, what could be better. Friendly staff, quick service and lovely fish n chips. will visit again.

Great food always served here. Queues long but service is fast. The fish is delicious with thin crispy batter. Good chips and massive potato scallops.

I make a point of visiting here whenever I'm in Barmouth. I was a little wary as we were towards the end of the opening hours and there was no queue out of the door which is unusual and that's usually when food has been stored a while. However, fish was still crisp and tasty and the chips well cooked.... More
