Walking up to a bar is not a skill for me but when you're treated with a hearty welcome & a big smile, it's no problem. Staff was gracious & efficient. Today mussels, tomorrow cockles? Modern fresh cooking wth history all around us. Very enjoyable...More

We were part of a families 70th birthday event at the bear. The whole experience has been un-BEARable. The establishment is old and run down and for a moment thought I was entering the boardroom from Are You Being Served. The only thing that was...More

Arrived for a family birthday party the service was dreadful and to be honest the food was nothing to write home about perhaps my expectations were too high on this occasion. We travelled 100 miles to this party but I wouldn't have bothered if I'd...More

We were invited to my sister in laws birthday party at the Bear and were really looking forward to it as we had heard such brilliant reviews. However, we were really disappointed. The vegetables arrived cold which we mentioned to staff who took them away,...More

Great cosy atmosphere and delicious faggots! The place was busy and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our food arrived very quickly and was piping hot. I would certainly recommend it. The car park round the back was busy but we still managed to...More

I go to the Bear regularly and have always enjoyed the excellent food served there. And they use local produce, so fewer food miles. The bar staff are friendly and efficient and the food good. What more can you ask for?

Five of us met here for a family lunch having previously booked. This is a lovely old place and everything was fully up to our expectations.

It's been a few years since I enjoyed the hospitality of The Bear, I don't think I'll leave it so long in the future. Our family met at The Bear for a family 60th birthday celebration, 12 people, different meals and not one problem. The...More

Why do you have to order at the bar and not have waiter service? For an establishment like yours surely that would be a priority. Only in chain pubs like Wetherspoons and brewers fare you have to order at the bar, could it be in the future that you will have to pay for your meal when ordering it at bar?

We ordered at the table and had a lovely waitress serve us but that was in the restaurant side on the left she did say we could eat in the bar or the restaurant so maybe if you eat in the bar you order at the bar and in the... More
