My partner had to reserve a table here several weeks before due to hearing how popular this place is. Even though we arrived when it was dark we could sense how nice it would be to sit outside during the summer in their garden. We had a table in the main restaurant which was beautifully presented. The menu has many... More

Located in the pretty village of Hethe, a few miles from Bicester, with plenty of off-street parking. The immaculate renovated rustic/modern interior is clearly divided into two halves, bar and restaurant, which works really well. The food menu is interesting, with a reasonable range of dishes, well supplemented with daily specials. Clearly provenance of the food is important, and mentioned... More

Stunning place, lovely gardens, beautiful building, clean and inviting. I had calamari and husband had chorizo sausage to start, both very tasty and would have these again. I had the beef heel which was delicious, husband had the pork rib which was gorgeous. We shared a desert (Just because we were full but greedy), chocolate bread and butter pudding, probably... More

Thought I should leave a comment having read a poor review of the Cote de Boeuf. I ate here this week with a pal who loves his steak, and ordered it rare. It was cooked to perfection, the fat was creamy and was better than most wagyu or kobe I've had in town. It comes with three generous pots of... More

Really nice meal. Reasonably priced for the quality of the food. Parking behind was easy. Can't really find anything to say negative!

As a regular it was a little disappointing during a recent evening meal with a couple of colleagues. The service and atmosphere were the usual good standard but the food was a little off par, especially my steak. Hoping that this was a one off!

We are continually working on the development of our steak offer, and take all feedback... More

This is my second visit. I'll be back again on Sunday. I just wish I had found this pub/restaurant years ago. As well as fantastic food and service, I really like the fact that the tables are well spaced out... I hate going to a restaurant when the person on the next table is sat closer to you than the... Arriving at 6.57pm on a weeknight with another visit 9 days later at 12.03 on a Friday lunchtime, I might have expected this lovely pub to have plenty of table availability in the bar. But both times I was lucky to grab the very last table. This is becoming a habit. I don't know anywhere else within miles of home... More

Booked a table for a night out with friends. The very pleasant waitress suggested the special which was Cote de Boeuf on the bone and said it would be plenty to share between the 3 of us. She was wrong, it was (only just) enough for 2. The fact it was served with 1 small pot of fries added to... More

Dear MAH8584 Firstly let me apologise for not meeting the usual standards that we try to maintain throughout our service here at the Muddy Duck. We’re sorry that one of our team was misleading in her recommendations but have often had two people taking the meat away with them after ordering the Cote de boeuf. As for the issue in... More

The Muddy Duck is a pub and restaurant located in the pretty village of Hethe, just north of Bicester. You can’t miss us – we’re slap bang in the beating heart of Hethe, next door to the Church of St. Edmund and St. George and just 4 miles from M40 junction 10. We love that all things British and traditional are making a revival, so whether in the bar or the restaurant, our food is an honest and inspiring blend of time-honoured favourites, with a creative MD twist. No short cuts, no ping-and-ding, no frozen – all fresh and cooked to order. The only thing that comes out of our freezer is our ice-cream and that's made in-house too. Through and through we’re about free-range, high welfare, sustainability, local or British produce if it’s best or at its best – and if not, we’re not ashamed to source from further afield, because quality is what counts. We keep favourite real ales and regularly have a few starring guests too and run an extensive wine list and like to encourage punters to try something different, so our cellar range is particularly good value.
