Went there for my wife's birthday. In terms of ambiance, I didn't like the banquet room much. It is so plain. The service was good, we had no complaints. Regarding the food, I didn't enjoy the setup. The pickled tongue are fishy, the beans has no salt, I liked the cabbage soup and the tomatoes, the French fries are normal.... More

Lots of Basque food of good quality. Can get a bit noisy in the evenings. One of the good Basque restaurants in town.

The family style service of Wool Growers just adds to ambiance. The food is amazing and there is no way to leave this restaurant hungry. If you enjoy lamb, there's is the best.

Super fun atmosphere! Very family style, great food! Seating is on long benches with all sharing big bowls of food for the "setup" Individual entres are served separately. You will get to know your neighbors! My favorite is the garlic chicken - yummy!

I have been there many times over many years. This time I was here with a very large group following a funeral. I got the "set-up". It consists of many courses of food and each was cooked to perfection and tasty. It is served family style. It is hard to get good service with large groups but the service here... More

Lived in Ventura County since 1962 and have driven many times to Bakersfield to eat at the Wool Growers which I first was introduced to at a CA District Attorney's annual conference in January, 1962.

We stopped in for dinner tonight on our way through Bakersfield. The whole place was packed and we could tell many people were regulars. The service was very friendly too. The food is a bit of a set menu feast where you choose the meat or protein and there is a whole series of dishes including soup, beans, corn, salsa,... More

One of the oldest and consistently best restaurants in Bakersfield. It is Basque food with a normal restaurant layout in front and family style dining (long tables) in back. The food is consistently good. Not gourmet but satisfying. Basque restaurants are fairly rare but Bakersfield is at the end of the trail for shepherds walking their sheep along the Sierra... More

I have seven grandchildren. For Christmas they each got to choose what they wanted to do with me. My next to the youngest granddaughter wanted one thing.......To go to Wool Growers and eat pickled tongue. That's what we did.
