These pasties are historic and do go down in history!! I had the pleasure of going on a school trip to the mines up here in Grass Valley, and they brought these for the kids. I know they say they are like pot pies, but I can tell you they are much better than that. I'm sure the recipe has... More
This is a shop with an adjacent restaurant. Pasties are a staple food in Cornwall UK. And the taste for them was brought with them by the miner immigrants during the gold mining era. Cousin Jacks makes 'em just like in Cornwall, but with more varieties. We like the turkey. There are Jacks and Jills, the latter being smaller.
These pasties are frozen and reheated. There is relatively no filling. I like crust, so the lack of filling was ok for a minute. But the crust is pretty nondescript.
I had the Broccoli Cheese pastie and it was delicious. We sat down and didn't get it to go. There are two entrances, one for take out, one for sitting down. The seating is tiny, they have a tiny selection of English food. Wish the music was different, the radio was set to sappy love songs of the 80s. It... More
I love this place a lot! I love the veggy pasty there. Sometimes i miss my life in UK and i would go there because their food and interior of the cafe remind me a lot about it.
We HAD to find a spot for pasties after visiting the Empire Mine. Cousin Jack's was closed but they let us sit on the patio and made pasties for us anyway. Now THAT'S service. Everyone loved their pastie - I was thrilled with the vegetarian offering. We'll be back.
We went to the small To Go building adjacent to the restaurant - we were there after hours. The pasties were made to our order and still very warm by the time we got back to our hotel. I had the spinach & mushroom version & it was great - warm comfort food!
Cousin Jack Pasties is a wonderful little restaurant in downtown Grass Valley, California. All of the pasties are delicious, but the pot roast pastie is what life is all about. SO good.
