Dropped in for a casual lunch, and this place delivered. Basic sandwich, burger salad type of lunch. Service was pretty good, food was tasty, portions were generous. Have not had diner there, but lunch was reasonably priced. We would return.

We had a good lunch here, with a friendly efficient server, and a great view of the street. We like the outside seating areas, but it was chilly and windy, so we stayed inside. The bar is huge, and the decor is sort of homey and comfortable. We enjoyed our food, french onion soup, and salads, a good deal on... More

The ambience of the restaurant was warm and inviting and we had never eaten here so gave it a try. Pear salad and beet salad was exceptional. The clam chowder was served hot, but very bland. Wife ahd the chicken pot pie. Crust was on the soggy side, and the filling was runny but tasty. I had fish and chips... More

Very good food, service and ambiance. Warm, rustic interior with a fireplace... nice setting for a cold winter's evening. Beautifully prepared Hamachi as an appetizer was spot on... outstanding. Wife had delicious Sea Bass and my Scallops & Shrimp entrée was excellent as well. Pear salad was also tasty. Two things that bothered me: My wife and I usually start... More

First time visit to this restaurant on New Year Day. Despite it being holiday with a lot of people out dining, we were seated immediately. Service was friendly and efficient. Hubby had the special of the day - veal cheek scramble with onions, bell peppers, and cheese with a side of roasted potatoes. I had the salmon with yukon potatoes.... More

Just returned from a wonderful lunch at The Lumberyard. Our group was 17 which some restaurants wouldn't want on a Sunday morning. We had reservations and the staff had our table ready. They also gave use individual tickets. The wait staff was friendly and accommodating taking drink orders as we arrived. They kept the water glasses full. I sometimes think... More

Located in downtown Laguna Beach across from City Hall, The Lumberyard has a premier location on the corner of Forest Avenue and Third Street. Outside seating allows for the opportunity to see people as well as to be seen by people all the while enjoying the weather and delicious food. The inside of the restaurant is done in dark wood... Been here several times over last few and mixed and slightly disappointed but came back on weekday evening to try again. Called ahead as used to have special 50% off bottles on tuesday but no longer although reasonable corkage fee so brought our own bottle - no wine list on line to check if they had it but very unlikely... We ate with another couple at noon, on Sunday, October 16. This is the second time the four of us have eaten there. The girl at the front desk was friendly, but that was about it. Our server was extremely unfriendly and the service was poor. The server never smiled or even card that we were there. We had to... More

There are lots of great restaurants in Laguna with really cool menus and great food. The Lumberyard provides really good food, attentive service and reasonable prices. All of our dishes were "comfort food" and all were well prepared. The kids baby back ribs were tender and tasty, the beef stroganoff was rich with very tender pieces of tenderloin and the... More

Description
In 1912, at the bend of Forest Avenue, 23 year old Joe Jahraus opened the Laguna Lumber Company, he and his father(cigar maker, first postmaster and real estate agent) built the beautiful French Normandy building that is here today.
Prior to the lumberyard opening, building supplies needed to be dragged in by mule or floated in on the tides, and therefore, Laguna Beach had less than three hundred permanent residences. After the lumberyard opened, the area began to grow at unprecedented rates, transforming it from a tent town into a thriving city.
Laguna Lumber operated for seventy three years, sixty two of them in this location and its' architecture, influenced by Joe's tour abroad in World War I, is one of the most significant influences on the town's aesthetic. Half timbers, mud walls and shingled roofs grace many of the downtown storefronts and homes throughout the city because of this landmark.
Today, 384 Forest is home to Lumberyard - a contemporary American restaurant.
