Took the Metrolink down to Union Station and then walked over to Philippe's for lunch. The line is long, the sandwich is worth the wait.

I do agree with other reviewers that the sandwiches here can be very good, but very good for a sandwich. I am a sandwich fan in general, but I can't compare a restaurant with more diversity to this place and say it's more than average.

The size, price, quality and authenticity.... unmatched. Love the place. Highly recommended for a casual meateater's quick meal or meatfest!

Philippe's is one of those been-around-forever, must eat at, L.A. restaurants. I've been coming here ever since I was a kid. The fact is, this restaurant has a lot of old-school atmosphere. From the saw dust on the floor to the old wooden tables and...More

Upgraded my review from 2013. Never disappointed when we visit for a French Dip sandwich. The restaurant has not changed much over the years except for the prices and now recently they have modernized their restrooms which was long overdue.

The first time I got the feeling entering a restaurant in 1880, not being in LA. Great atmosphere, and of course great American food. A must visit when you're in Los Angeles !

Famous for the french dips, but try the chile or beef stew. They're awesome. Only a couple of blocks from Union Station and a block from Olvera st.

One of those 'bucket list' places you must go. Huge energy, great for people watching and an excellent selection of meat, cheese and breads. Dipped of course! I had the NY pastrami with a plank of bleu cheese. I added the hot mustard table side...More

Yes. Most servings can feed one person, but kids can split servings, especially if they're younger. All meals affordable.

This is not really a place where you would go for "healthy choices". It's a" sawdust on the floor" kind of place.
