Had dinner here last night with some friends. The food was very good! Two of us had a pasta dish. My friend's husband had the seafood combo which had a HUGE 1/2 of dungeness crab, a large chunk of salmon and several prawns. My only...More

We stayed several days Thanksgiving Week and were searching around for nice restaurant to have dinner on Thanksgiving. Three of the big four at the wharf were closed, but Old Fisherman's Grotto was open. Since all reservations were full for later in evening, we went...More

We hadn’t planned to eat out for Thanksgiving (I’m British) but I’m so glad we did. A succulent, well-priced a la carte menu ensured my first Thanksgiving in the States was one I will never forget. Great service too. My one tiny gripe is that...More

I live in Monterey x 25 years. I took my visiting adult children and well behaved grandchildren to the wharf to eat and asked for a window table for 6 so the kids could see the otters. It was a slow hour and there were...More

The website for this place and the pictures that are posted online really do this restaurant a disservice. It's much more inviting in person. We came here on Thanksgiving and ordered off their regular menu. The fish that they say is very popular--Macadamia nut crusted...More

We ate at the sister location directly across the wharf. It seemed a little more laid back. We had 2 bowels of the chowder, 6 oysters and a bottle of wine. It was fairly priced for the touristy area it is in.

Our local favorite place was closed so we headed one’d to the Grotto. I was expecting a short menu, tourist prices, and marginal food. I was only right about the prices, but rent is probably pretty steep. The clam chowder is good. Not too watery...More

Horrible place can't be bothered to have children in the restaurant... They don't want anyone else potentially disturbed.

For lunch, had clam chowder, salad, and seafood platter with a drink for $75 before tax and tip, which I think is a bit pricey for a touristy wharf setting. The food was all excellently prepared and presented. A little delay between salad and entree....More

I don't think reservations are necessary, although if you have time to make them, it would help. We were seated relatively quickly without them.
