Great pancake.... no way I could eat more than one. I've been here multiple times and the staff has been consistently excellent. ..

We're from out of town and went on a Sunday morning before the church crowd. Make sure to call for a reservation! The waitstaff were all very nice and professional! And the food was fabulous!! As we were leaving, there was a huge line out the door!

Terrific breakfast in this great corner restaurant. Husband had the huevos rancheros, which he thought were delicious,  though he missed having the chorizo that is commonly in the dish. He thought the coffee was good as well. I had the spicy sausage scram special. Had to take half of it home!! Well flavored, fresh, hearty servings. Will always go here... More

What a treat to have brunch in this beautiful historic building in downtown Salinas! We were in town to visit the nearby Steinbeck Center and just chanced on First Awakenings as we walked from our car to the Center. It was crowded at 11:00 AM but we waited only about 10 minutes for a table. Counter seating was immediately available.... More

Great breakfast menu in historic downtown. Big portions-we split an omelet and our appetites were completely satisfied. Friendly, informative, personable waiter. Can't wait to be heading back through to try something else on the menu!

The atmosphere is nice, the service is good. The food sometimes is not that great. Sometimes the food is cold and poorly prepared.

The plates here are very large. Some things like the Cobb salad are available in half sizes. Unique food items. Is extremely busy always. Plan on waiting for a table. This is a local place and just down from the National Steinbeck Center. Street parking is scarce. Park garage available and can be validated by the restaurant.

Locals, stars and tourists eat here. We sat across from actress Marlee Maitlan enjoying her kids along with a scramble of some sort, just the other day. The star are the pancakes, IMHO. Always calorie/carb conscious, I save these treats for splurge (guests visiting) days. Pancakes are huge. SO what? If I'm going to be bad it to THE BONE.... More

I used to go there years ago, I don't know what happened. Recently, a friend wanted to meet there. My food was awful. I thought it was just a bad day, so I gave it another chance, still awful. How can one ruin a breakfast dish?. The second time, I took my niece and she had pancakes. She only took... More

I have never been to First Awakening when there as not a line waiting to b seated. The good news is that they bring out this huge container of coffee and a few chairs so the wait is not do bad. Everything that I have ordered at FA has been delicious but my personal favorite is wheat germ pancakes.
