For some reason I expected the food to be a step above bar food but was disappointed that it wasn't. Like it's Gastropub sibling the drinks and ales are better than the food. Will not be back.

Had some terrific food at this downtown hip spot. Santa Ana is really earning a rep for exciting samplings in a warm, friendly atmosphere. At our table we had the super nummy charred cauliflower with some exotic sauce, a beautifully presented grilled apple and butternut squash salad and an AMAZING chocolate lava cake. Nice service, too damn loud (we're old).... More

Good food some times a long wait but worth it, great place for people watching. The weekend Brunch is the best, limited menu wish they offered more egg dishes. But there is Rav Blue, a great jazz, and oldies singer with guitar.

I picked this restaurant for my birthday celebration with family. The kimchi chicken wings were to die for! The Brussel sprouts were also tasty. My daughter got the best. The tri tip OMG!! I did not care for the butternut gnocchi. I also didnt care for the chicken jidori. They dont have anything really for kids so remember this. The... More

Everything was wonderful! The drinks, food and atmosphere. Our waiter was friendly, helpful with suggestions and attentive. I would go again and I live about 45 mins away. We had a party of 9 which was not a problem at all. We tried all the drinks and dessert and shared which was perfect to taste everything. Park across the street... More

We actually found this place on Trip Advisor and it was very good. I had the Sweet Jalapeno burger and it was delicious. It's served with shoestring fries and their own homemade ketchup. They have a nice variety of beers on tap too. They offer $1 beers on Thursday's with any burger purchase and were going to start Taco Tuesday.... More

I really, really, really wanted to like this place. We thought the concept (restaurant meets old bookstore with small plates) sounded fantastic. We were so, so disappointed. The food was really just subpar. We ordered about 6 small plates to share and the best thing we had was the mac and cheese that we ordered for our child (which, we... More

Outstanding! Brunch was excellent, varied and unique menu, intelligent blending of sauces. Fries cooked in duck fat are fantastic!

Description
A modern local is a new concept that is in a sense, the evolution of a gastropub. A culinary-centric, Public House that celebrates it's "local." Whether it's the seasonal, local, farm-to-table sourcing of our ingredients, the history of the local area, or the local resident that feels their sense of ownership here; Chapter One: the modern local is a product of its ideals and creative style as well as its community and local history. We are humble servants to our guests. Our commitment is to treat every guest like family and ensure that you feel the heart of the pub every time you walk in the door. No pretension, just good food and drink and great company.
