I lived in Santa Barbara for several years and now go back to visit once a year and my first thought is always, "When am I going to Via Maestra?" Here's my recommendation - go on a weekday for lunch. It's quiet, you can sit on the patio and relax, drink a crisp glass of Italian white wine, even bring... More

Had dinner here recently with my wife and daughter. We have eaten here a number of times over the years and are always pleased with the quality and taste of the food. The dining experience is excellent in a very small, charming restaurant. Service is always top-notch, and our server, Andrew, on this most recent visit was very, very good.... More

I asked the desk clerk at our hotel to recommend a good Italian restaurant and he suggested Via Maestra 42. I'm so happy we took his advice! Located in a small strip-mall it doesn't look like much from the outside however as soon a we stepped through the door it was obvious this was the real deal. An intimate space... More

Consistently delivers, no matter how busy! Great pasta dishes, have tried both the meat and vegetable lasagne, and both were spectacular. A nice menu, lots of choices, and every time it is always great food. A little small inside and tables close together, but there is also an outdoor patio with a few tables. It seems to be. Always busy... More

My wife and I have been going to Santa Barbara for weekends and vacations for years, and in that time, I bet we have driven by this restaurant many times and never noticed. With some reason as it occupies a small, nondescript space in an older strip mall that doesn't exactly scream for attention. However, on a recent visit a... More

Family of 4 there on a Friday night. They do not take bookings, the atmosphere inside was great so we were happy we did. All our means we're yum and service excellent...prices reasonable. If we lived in Santa Barbara we would be regulars.

For the best Italian food in Santa Barbara go to Via Maestra! It's where all the locals go and you might even see someone from Lost. Great wine selection and even have glutton free. Stevie is the best server in Santa Barbara, glad she is back!!

I hadn't been to Via Maestra 42 in many years. It's a very small restaurant in a strip mall next to the post office. Tables are tiny. I've read reviews about how friendly the wait staff is, but my friend and I thought the service was very spotty. It seems there are a lot of regulars who receive a great... More

Have eaten here several times over the years when I visit Santa Barbara. It is still one of the best Italian experiences food wise. Always pretty crowded at lunch times but the experience is just like eating in a small trattoria in Italy. It is not romantic or glamorous like many Italian places try to be in Monticeto - just... Via Maestra is this delightful little bistro or "Bar" as they are called in Italy - swamped at 2:00 one afternoon - took forever to get two sandwiches as they were "slammed" - i understand that - short-staffed who were working their fannies off trying to serve everyone who had ordered for eating there.... they are popular - try to...
