This place is always busy so plan on waiting a while for your table. It is well worth the wait, the sushi is so fresh it melts in your mouth. The flavour combinations are so simple and yet they are out of this world. The service is friendly and despite the constant line of waiting customers we did not feel... More

Following the method and model chef Nozawa put into place at the original Nozawa Bar in Studio City, Sugarfish is sushi perfection. They place emphasis on the quality of the fish and temperature of the rice, making the perfect combination that melts in your mouth. The best value is to order one of the "Trust Me" set menus (there are... More

Recommend ordering the 'trust me' selection from the menu and maybe (depending on how hungry you are) ordering one other item. The Toro rolls in particular were great.

Sat on the bar. Service was attentive and quick. Not the cheapest place but hey with sushi the quality is what matters not the quantity, and these guys know the job. Superb taste.

Sushi is a cult and a rite in health and image-obsessed LA. So, there are more sushi, sashimi, and poke spots popping up than you can keep up with. I first fell in love with Sugarfish at their DTLA location, and I've since tried out several branches of this LA staple. The Santa Monica spot is another amazing rendition of... More

If you are a sushi person, this is a must go to. Probably the best sushi I've ever had. They serve the classics like sashimi but in incredible quality. If you look for all those fancy mayo sushi, go somewhere else, this is for true sushi lovers. Also, the place is busy so it's not probably a best spot for... More

At Sugarfish the rice is warm- strong flavor- the fish is mediochre and flavorless- the food is poorly presented. The condiments- wasabi etc is nonexistent or bland. I wrote this upon visited the restaurant in December and Trip Advisor would not print it. Now I see the New York Times citing the same flaws in Sugarfish. the prices are not... More

Maybe I don't get out all that much but this place is worth writing home about. Amazingly fresh sushi, with the rice served at the proper temperature (nigiri) is a welcome change from most sushi restaurants that get it wrong. This place is reasonable, fun and the service is amazing. If you're traveling, it's a must. If I lived in... More

Two dinners at Sugarfish in Santa Monica confirmed that this was the freshest, most balanced sushi I've eaten since my trip to Japan and Sugarfish is a MUCH less intimidating experience than the sushi restaurants in Tokyo. If you order anything but the Full Chef's Choice, you are cheating yourself out of a palate expanding experience. Each offering is perfection... More

In Santa Monica for a couple of days prior to flying to Tahiti I was hankering for sushi on our first night. We pulled up the TA app and SugarFish was only a mile away…and we started walking. We were there early so we avoided any line, but it was starting to stack up as we were leaving. It is... More

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
