We celebrate our mom's birthday each year at Kashiwa. The owner and servers have always been attentive and friendly. You will find quality sashimi that you usually don't find anywhere else. Don't let the fact that the restaurant is in a strip mall deter you. The quality of food is sublime! We have been treated to imo (sweet potato) and... More

If you are staying near the ocean around Long Beach, it is a bit out of the way to travel to Kashiwa. However, if you appreciate top quality, authentic, fresh sushi beautifully prepared; it is definitely worth the trip! I have a new favorite sushi restaurant. I recommend sitting at the bar. If you are into the more recently developed... More

Great food but slow service. Took a while to get waited on. Nice decor. Higher prices than one would expect for the location.

While in Long Beach for a trade show, I found this sushi place that was rated highly on other services. As I pulled up to the restaurant I thought this could not be the one that was rated so highly. Well, surprise. The sushi and sashimi were the freshest and most authentic I have had outside Japan. The sushi is... More

Hands down, this is the best Japanese restaurant around. We drive over 20 miles just to get there. The food is great, the ambiance is soothing and the presentation of food outstanding. The sushi chef is a true master. My only gripe is that they are closed Sunday and Monday!

We made another visit, this time for the Sukiyaki, and found it as consistently marvelous! I cannot imagine going out for Japanese food anywhere else in Long Beach. The attention to detail, subtle combinations of flavors and excellent service are remarkable! It is as another customer referred to it, "a hidden gem."

I was so impressed with the ambiance and service (actual Japanese speaking help and sushi chef); I was thrilled that they had my favorite mirugai (king clam) that is very hard to find. The fried squid appetizer and ahi poke salad were both so delicious and plentiful! Thanks to our friends for introducing us to this gem!

What an incredible restaurant, from the Tanuki in the entry way to the plush warm towels, when you are seated, you know you are in for a treat! The daikon roll, tekka maki and hamachi were excellent. The Kashiwa roll was so tender and crunchy, not an easy task to pull off. The sunomono was elevated to a delicacy...so simple... More

If you like sushi, and I mean really like sushi, this is the only place I've found. I don't eat many rolls and am all about the quality of fish. This is a Japanese owned and operated restaurant which places quality above all else. My recommendation is to order the Omakase ($45) and let the chef prepare your meal as... More

We're making this a tradition whenever we pick someone up from LAX. 3rd time here and always happy with the food. My son's favorite sukiyaki, wife likes the tempura very much, another son loves the katsu while I enjoy the sashimi and draft Sapporo.
