We had a small wedding out by the lake in Fairplay and it was magical. Then we all went to Salado for the reception afterward. They really worked with us when it came to the timing of the dinner and when they closed. Our whole...party was rolling in around 1 hour before they closed, but they were SUPER friendly and helpful. Never made us feel rushed but several of us used to be servers so we tried to eat and get out quickly for them. lol But they never made us feel like we should. The food was great! I had the salmon and I got to try some of the other dishes. We are a same-sex couple and it was just SOOOO cool to be treated with dignity and respect. I was BLOWN away by how nice and wonderful everyone was when my newly husband and I entered the restaurant. The entire place, including servers and hostesses, stood up and gave us a standing ovation coming in through the restaurant. Brought me to tears...again. LOL After being together for 14 years, it was sure nice to be welcomed like that after our wedding. Thank you again for accommodating us and sorry this review is so late! lol As far as food-wise...be sure to try the appetizers, they were my favorite...yes all of them. (we ordered them all). Also, have them make some of their specialty non-alcoholic drinks too. They make a mean tea. It's wonderful!More

My family ate on the patio at Salado twice: once for lunch, and once for dinner. Both times, we had our dog with us, and they offered her a bowl of water. There are many more gluten free options for dinner, but I had a...nice salad for lunch. We'll be back next time we're in town!More

If you would like your meal served with a side of an eye roll and overall disdain for paying customers, then this is the place! Pardon me if I am mistaken, but don't servers typically greet you? Perhaps you can't get to me straight away....That's ok! A simple "Hello, I will be with you shortly" can set the tone for either an enjoyable meal and one where you feel like you are being scooted out the door. I didn't memorize the menu, so I am going to need it when ordering. Would you mind perhaps giving it back rather than scooping it off the table? Strange how you were not in a hurry to greet me or take a drink order but suddenly you are in Mario Andretti mode when taking my dinner order. Quite like the busser who tried to clear my dish whilst I was still eating. I mentioned that I was still eating and got an eye roll. Do I have to pay extra for that? The food was delicious; at least someone at this restaurant is doing things the right way. Great flavors, and portions. Kudos to the kitchenMore

Had the venison dinner special. Hats off to the chef. I have had venison prepared many ways. Tonight was off the chart with flavor. The entire plate complimented each other. Will definitely be back. We have lived local for past 3 years. Finally tried the...restaurant. And we will definitely be back more often.More

We stopped by for a late lunch and upon entering were basically ignored by the staff who was busy sweeping up the floor and flitting around the restaurant. When we were finally addressed we were told to wait while the "hostess" finished her sweeping up....Attitude was "snooty Aspen" in a hole in the wall old Colorado mining town. When we were finally seated the service was slow, and our server forgot our drink order. I grew up in a very successful restaurant family, and we're partners in a Michelin starred restaurant, so we know how important good service is to the dining experience. The salmon corn chowder and jalapeno elk sausage were both excellent. Everyone has a bad day, we will give them another try the next time that we're in the area.More

We were at a rental just outside Fairplay for 2 days and ended up at the Salado for 2 dinners and 1 lunch. Food was always great and quite creative in presentation and flavor. We also felt very safe, as face masks were worn and...tables were 8 feet or more apart. Also option to sit outside, which would have worked for lunch. On Sunday evening we had the short rib plate and it was really tender and tasty. For Monday lunch we had the Navajo taco, which was ground beef taco deluxe on an open face pastry bread. Again, looked and tasted great. On Monday evening, the Asian restaurant was take-out only and we did not want bar food, so we stopped in again. This time we had Chimichurri flank steak. The sauce, mix of beans and sweet potatoes were a creative and tasty combination. Service was great, with Abigail taking good care of us both evenings.More

Stopped here for lunch while we were in town. Got a table on the beautiful patio. They brought all of us (including our dog) water right away. All of our meals were delicious and the cheeseburger and fries from the kids menu was the best...my son has had. I would have been perfectly happy if it had been my lunch, lucky for me I had the Navajo taco and green chili which was even better. We shared the cactus fries after hearing how amazing they were. They were good, and definitely unique, but what really made them outstanding was the sauce. All of the staff were wearing masks and the tables were well spaced so we felt completely safe. This place is definitely worth stopping if you are in the area.More

We ordered take out from this restaurant on our way to Durango September 4th unaware of a 15% "take out" fee. We were not informed of this. Perhaps this is typical in that town but it was the first time we have ever had this...happen. We were tired from driving all day and asked if we could sit and eat outside at one of the tables, we were promptly told "No, that it was for dine in only" This was at 2:46 p.m., the couple ahead of us had take out also and they were allowed to sit outside and eat. We had the Navajo tocos, cactus fries and drinks. The food was very good but the attitude of people working there left something to be desired. We paid $55.11 for two Navajo tocos, cactus fries and two cokes.....extremely overpriced.More

I can’t even list my favorite food because we eat here frequently & have pretty much eaten everything on the menu! Love the butter burgers, cheese curds are fantastic but I completely in love with the Penne Pasta Dish! Then again those veggie sandwiches are...tasty too. You may be better off making dinner reservations. Nice atmosphere, great artwork to purchase & awesome service from the Chefs to the Waitstaff.More
