I hate to do this to a place that has been a Hartford institution for (according to other reviews) more than 40 years. I know I first went here in the mid 80s. Everyone raves about the size of the grinders and yes, they are enormous. My wife and I got a large Italian combo. Must've had two pounds of... More

Nothing fancy or anything fan fare about the Franklin GIANT Grinder Sandwich Shop. It doesn't have to. The immense size of their legendary sandwiches and grinders sets itself aside from all others. I picked up a 1/2 grinder with spicy Capicola, peppers, provolone, lettuce, tomato, and oil on a fresh grinder roll. I was pleasantly comfortable after half of the... More

I recently revisited one of my favorite places to eat in the City of Hartford. As a kid growing up in Hartford's Italian South End was a treat for the senses. Excellent food everywhere! Last night a group of high school friends got together for one of our 2-3 annual get togethers. We decided to eat at Franklin Giant Grinder.... More

So of you're looking for a classic grinder shop with fresh cut meat then this is the place!!! I think it's the owner that makes the sandwiches! And let me tell you he's not stingy! The bread is fresh and compliments all the meat and veggies very well. The older woman is the owners wife is a little mean and... More

I have frequented this shop for over forty years and this was my first so so experience. The shop was not busy as it was a Thursday at about 2pm. I requested a 1/2 turkey sub with swiss cheese instead of provolone but got provolone anyway. I might expect that at a busy time or a place with new hires,... More

Having grown up in the south end of Hartford, I have been spoiled when it comes to grinders - subs, hoagies or maybe heroes, depending on where you are in the states - and, by far, Franklin Giant is the best! While I have not tried every grinder on the menu, I can tell you that the beef cutlet, Italian... More

Franklin Giant Grinder is still the place to hit in the old Little Italy part of the South end for a great, we'll portioned and inexpensive (for the size) grinder. The chicken cutlet with provolone and roasted peppers is a must have.

I can still remember my first time as a child going here with my father over 40 years ago. He bought a Pepper and Egg grinder and I had some. Over the years I have other grinders and their pizza and it's all really good, but when I ever get a chance to go to this place I don't even... More
