This is a classic, old-style clam bar right on the Post Road in Old Saybrook. Nothing fancy, just good fried seafood. You order at the window, then sit and wait for your order to come out. Friendly service, huge selections and informal dining inside or...More

We stopped at Johnny Ad's on a Friday night when we were in the area for the weekend. I had the clam roll and my husband a shrimp plate. The clams and shrimp were OK. The fries were the large steak fries and they were...More

Hamburg was not cooked as ordered, hot dog looked a little pale - AKA hardly cooked - and the clam fritters were chewy and lacking a hint of clam. Kraut for the hot dog is a hefty $.90 and at that, it can be hardly...More

If you like greasy unhealthy fried food, this is the place for you! And the broiled fish available tends to be overlooked ,dry and unappetizing. Clam chowder had an odd taste.Do not recommend and will not return.

This has the feel of an old car-hop and outdoor picnic tables (as well as indoor diner style seating. The fried clam strips were amazing (many places are tough or chewy...these were tender and delicious). Had many hot lobster rolls up and down the eastern...More

Went for a quick late afternoon bite, got 2 hot dogs, fries and Cole slaw to go. I picked up my order, it seemed like whoever bagged it has never ever put anything in a bag before. The dogs were okay, but for some reason...More

A simple, no-nonsense "clam shack" with exceptionally good food. If you like chili dogs, you can't do better than these—Johnny Ad's serves foot-long dogs served in grilled top-slit buns, and the chili is savory without being TOO spicy. (Be sure to add red relish from...More
