You really never know what you're going to find when you venture into a very old building. GW Tavern has a lot of character, period decor and they are also putting out some good food. The atmosphere is fun, service is friendly and everything we tried was very tasty, including a vegan chocolate cake that actually delivered on the flavor,... More

Excellent meal, friendly and attentive wait staff and enjoyable cocktails. The fried oysters were crispy and yummy. The Weiner Schnitzel prepared with lemon and capers was something new and delicious. My husband's flat iron steak was cooked perfectly. We ate in the Bar area and really enjoyed the ambiance with the roaring fire that warmed up the space.

Recently made a weekend visit to the Washington Depot area for a hike, visit to the **** nearby American Indian museum, and then was feeling peckish. The GW Tavern fit the bill and then some! As it was an unseasonably warm winter day, we chose to sit outside on the terrace--- nicely situated with a view down to the creek... More

Fabulous fun ambience. We had a table by the fireplace (do request a booth). A great bar. Locals and visitors come here, jam-packed at dinner so make a reservation.

Nice ambiance around the fireplace and great food. Burger is excellent, as well as the pot pie. Been here many times.

Took a short drive today up into pastoral Connecticut and lunched at the "Tavern". It was busy in the front room with a good fire, chatting tables and country bar. We ate in a larger "over flow" back room which I am sure can be chilly as there is no heat. I had the "skillet" eggs scrambled with onions, cheese... More

Been an on again, off again guest. Food not consistent but always eat able. A bit pricey for food quality and dish preparation and presentation. Needs a face lift, a good dusting, new menu and some creativity.

A country hearty food kind of place. The staff was great and there's a lot to choose from on the menu. We had the chili (a little sweet), pork chop, pot pie (enormous) and other dishes. The food was good but not great. Decent drink selections. Clears out by 830pm
