We used to live in CT and went to the Charcoal Chef many times. Now we go every time we return to CT. Their breakfasts are fresh, excellent, and very low cost. They still use real charcoal to cook their burgers; none better!! The restaurant is family owned and operated with the same courtesy as always. The decor is the... More

Every Friday and Saturday, the Charcoal Chef serves a delicious New Engand clam chowder! I love it because it is hearty and full of diced clams and potatoes. It is served hot by their very friendly, kind and caring wait staff. You do not want to miss this soup! It is the best I have ever tasted.

We had a very good lunch. I enjoyed the grilled steak sandwich and the chief agitator enjoyed the hamburger platter. Our guest had an excellent crab cake sandwich. We will make it a point to visit again on a return visit.

The Charcoal Chef has remained a staple for the locals and part-timers for 60 years…not much has changed even down to the some of the glassware. I dined on a Monday night while visiting my parents who always enjoy the simple good meals and friendly staff here. It was a perfect summer night to visit and I recommend you to... More

We've been going to the Charcoal Chef for over 20 years, and still love it. We love all things "retro", and this fits the bill. Nothing fancy here, just basic meals, and no pasta. Their barbeque'd chicken breast is excellent, comes with baked potato and salad. They have an extensive pie list for dessert - very good Boston Creme. We... More

I had the salmon with a salad and baked potato, and it was awesome. The salad had real tomatoes and cucumbers (and plenty of them). The potato was perfectly cooked and drenched in sour cream and butter. The salmon was perfectly grilled and served with lemon and tartar sauce. Service was friendly. I will definitely return.

We sat on our own and was greeted quickly. The cocktail my husband ordered was nice and strong. The kids were happy with their meal. We enjoyed ours. Many local seniors frequented it and we enjoyed the atmosphere.

This place is a real hoot! Menu is from the 1950's along with the food. All homemade and some of the waitresses I think are from the 50's too. Great food and great service.
