My husband loves the little bocaditos here and it is the only reason we stop by when we are in the area. The Cuban pastries are okay, but all the baked deserts and little cakes were stale.Overpriced in my opinion. For the best Cuban pasteries, try Hialeah, fresher and delicious.

Unfortunately, this establishment's prime time was 20 years ago or so. Today, their food is pretty much tasteless, not fresh and EXPENSIVE. Save yourself the trip and go to Publix supermarket on 27ave just south of Coral Way. That Publix has the best Cuban bread ever! Gilbert's food used to be great but not sure if the original owners sold... More

Every time I've been here in the past the pastries have always been excellent. This time I went past noon and found that they had very little left when it came to their pastries. The Empanadas were running low and their croquets were just about all gone. The one that were left did not look very appetizing. They did have... More

This review is for the Gilbert's bakery located on the University of Miami medical campus. I work in a building close to Gilbert's. I would go there every day if it was worth it. Most of the items I've tried taste old - like they were made a week ago ( with the exception of their pastellitos which are fresh... More

actually this review is for the Miami airport restaurant just inside the j concourse. I had gotten off a cruise ship early that morning and did not eat or drink coffee yet. Arrived at the airport about 10am, famished, and craving caffeine. after checking in and clearing security it was my first stop. The coffee was excellent and the palmera... More

I'm a Cuban American originally from Miami and this is one of the bakeries that makes authentic Cuban pastries. The pastelitos and ham croquetas are my favorites. I like the traditional guava or cheese pastelitos for dessert and ham, chorizo or beef picadillo pastelitos for a meal. They have all types of goodies and great coffee. I like the cafe... More

I just left the place took my quiche order to go and was very disappointed.. it was a ham & cheese quiche. It was small as my palm for $3 & change?? It actually tasted frozen. The place looks great, there might be other things that are good but I will not be returning. People were very nice and attentive...

I coincidentally found this wonderful, extraordinary bakery as I was leaving a pharmacy that is located in the same strip mall at Bird Road First of all Gilbert's is not a restaurant, so look elsewhere if you want to be served a full meal by a waiter at a table after choosing from a menu. Instead, Gilbert's is a simple,... More

Description
Our family's baking tradition began in 1928 in Camaguey, Cuba as a husband and wife operation. They baked family recipes and peddled them around the town's train station. As the family grew, so did their success. Under the leadership of their oldest son, they traveled to the United States and Europe bringing products and techniques from abroad. In 1962 their enterprise, now distributing across the entire island, was confiscated by the Castro regime. Seeing that they were stripped, not only of their business, but also of their most basic freedom, they fled Cuba for the United States of America. Starting from the ground up, again proved well worth it for the family. The oldest son, now a Cuban-American entrepreneur, was busy rebuilding his bakery in the United States. Meanwhile, his son-in-law, Gilberto Arriaza was learning traditional American, Jewish, German, Austrian and Italian product lines from some of the best old-fashioned bakers in Miami. Years later, Gilberto and family worked together to make their Cuban bakery flourish in Little Havana and the Miami Latin community. After his father-in-law's death, Gilberto went on his own, uniting his knowledge of the Latin community with his vast experience of European pastries. In 1976, Gilbert's Bakery was inaugurated as one fifth the size of today's Douglas location. Capitalizing on the ethnic and operational experience gained in his previous work and driving forward with an extremely creative and open zest for food, Gilbert's soon became known for quality, presentation and creativity. This remains the cornerstone of Gilbert's Bakery today. The next generation is now involved and positively contributing to the history we will be writing tomorrow.
